Two votes for Paddy… obviously should have put him on the poll. He’s finishing the season well and I want him to stay this summer but he was a squad player for much of the the first half of the season so a bit surprised. He was overshadowed by Tanto & Barry for the first half of the season, but has stepped in to replace Barry...& Collar...& Sarce since the turn of the year & has led by example. Tanto & Barry were fine when things were going ok, but the players with character come to the fore when things aren't going so well

Camps is being a bit overlooked here I feel. He was poor last season, and I think that's filtered into the way he's been regarded this season, particularly as he's competing for a spot with Croasdale who's been a huge favourite since he's been here. With that in mind, he's been a key player for us this season (with the same 'when fit' condition as applies to just about everyone else), and I'd say our best midfielder overall. Last month or two, defo, but not had enough impact over the season. Similar to Bailey, but over different timeframes.
fair point, definitely some recency bias in there.

MSH and Barry have played more and produced more than Camps over the course of the season but haven’t played enough to be considered hence I disagree that Camps has been overlooked.

Agree it’s between Tanto and Ben. Both have been superb. As noted, Barry and MSH would have been in with a shout without the injuries.
But Pye has definitely been my revelation of the season - he’s gone from a lad that sounded fairly promising on loan in the National League to someone who’s presence/absence hugely affects our ability to play and who I think has the attributes to end up playing Championship, minimum.
Also, it’s hard to say before the end of the season. Hopefully we’ll get promoted comfortably but if it gets tense there’s no player I’d rather have for those tight, nervy run-in games than Paddy. A proper warrior and loves a late winner in a crucial game.

Ben. Most important and most difficult position on the pitch. Never lets us down. Absolutely integral to our title challenge.
Then Tanto. Then Paddy.

It'll be someone who was peripheral in the first few months but is playing well now.
If you start the season on fire but went stale or got injured in recent months you stand much less of a chance.
It's a similar phenomenon as those lists like 30 greatest sitcoms of all time where half of them are from the last ten years.
In fact it can help to have been crap early doors as it helps your narrative arc.

Difficult one. The player you least like to see not on the team sheet? Horsfall all day long. We don’t talk about him much because we just take him for granted. Never a bad game, very few mistakes. Tanto - great season, lots of goals and an all round great bloke. Sarcevic - a favourite of mine. Pye - just got better and better and a huge season. Will surely play at a high level. But overall you know I.m going for Ben. Great season, stepped up to the mark once again, and a genuine legend.

Ethan Pye the best player but surprised I'm the only vote for Horsfall. Ever present (bar his illness vs Trannere and look what happened there). Leads our defence.
I'm an Olaofe fan, always have been, lots to work on but so many attributes to work with and his goal output has been more than expected. Hopefully a few more to come yet.
Injuries have robbed MSH, Barry and Collar on the list.

I too am surprised at the lack of recognition for Horsfall.
I love seeing how Tanto & Pye have come on in leaps and bounds this season; Paddy had been mercurial at times; and if the club shop sold Ben Hinchliffe pyjamas I'd wear them to bed.
But Horsfall has been resolutely solid and dependable week in, week out. He's the only one I look at and think "Yep, he's a L1 player and shouldn't be slumming it in this division" every week.

Pretty much where I am. And even as a defender of defenders I confess I rarely comment on his performances. He just goes about getting the job done. I think if there's a criticism, it's that he doesn't score the set-piece headers people might expect from a centre half. But it's a minor quibble, really. Solid and reliable at the back, week in, week out is needed as much as your 20-a-season frontman. In a season where we've got ourselves to where we are, whatever happens from here, you should have a few candidates for PotS. Ben, Tanto, Pye and Madden are, for different reasons, all strong contenders, I think. Others have also been excellent at times but injuries have curtailed their impact over the season. All that said, I'm still tempted to plump for Horsfall.

Camps for me is the most improved player this season even if it's over a short timeframe, he's finally showing us what he's capable of at just the right time. Not quite player of the season but fast becoming an essential component of the team. Out of the players listed in the poll it's a tough choice between Ben & Tanto. I've gone for Tanto because I think he's on course to go past the 20 league goals in a season when some were saying he wouldn't even hit double figures. It's a common cry from football fans 'we need a 20 goal a season striker' well here he is! We're lucky that we've also had Paddy chipping in with the goals too & although he's had the odd patch of games where he's looked slightly on the wane all of a sudden he'll bounce back with a string of really good performances, & as we all know Paddy never gives up & always gives it his all, a player of the year poll without Paddy's name on it doesn't look right!
