Ignoring the fact the anthem isn't England's and that the tune is an utter dirge and the words are regressive horseshit, if anyone thinks the place of an England manager is dependent on them singing a song, they're not really interested in whether the team wins or not, so I'm not overly concerned about their opinion on this issue. We could change it for Land of Hope and Glory. Although that would be a lie. But land of hopeless Tories wouldn't.

Forgetting for a minute how bizarre it is that some people want others to reign over them, what the hell does it matter if someone sings, mimes or stays with their mouth shut! Talk about focusing on trivialities. He's hardly disrespecting the entire country by politely standing there. He's hardly hip hopping around with a daft grin on his face is he! Now there's an idea: an anthem that, instead of being sung, is danced. Interpretively. I bet Pickford would love an English haka.

His stance isn't even anything to do with the words. He never sang it as a player and never has as a manager, due to him being in the zone that close to a game starting. Massive overreaction from the usual thickos. Some people just can't sing. Who sang in assemblies at School ? Not many.

National anthems are weird full stop, and ours is a particularly bad one, words and tune

I assume the Daily Mail will still be banging this drum when he's given the position full time and leads us to glory in the 2026 World Cup?

It doesn't bother me one little bit, Apart from the "god save the king" part I don't really know any other words to the National Anthem and have never attempted to learn them!

Couldn't give less of a shit. He can boo it for all I care. His team played well, albeit against limited opposition. Keep doing that and he can do what he likes. Wonder if he'll lose to the first decent team* we play too? *excluding Colombia, Croatia, Germany, Denmark, Senegal, Switzerland, Netherlands

Doesn't bother me. The words don't bother me either, I sing it as a Brit and an Englishman. I've nothing against the royal family, although it wouldn't bother me if we became a republic over night either.
GSTK/Q isn't actually documented anywhere as being the official British or English national anthem. A lecturer at uni also told me that the national anthem can be sung to the tune of the German national anthem too, and it's deliberate (he was a Dr. in German Language, so no reason to doubt his claim?). Also, Lichtenstein uses the same tune (GSTK/Q) but has no words! Just off to wake up my own glass eye ... 🤣

Big group of lads in the rows behind started booing when the usual announcement about the opposition national anthem being played was made. Then they heard the tune and had no idea what to do. By the time they'd decided to sing GSTQ over it, it was pretty much finished. Then we got the 'Why the f*ck have they nicked our tune?' chat...

I've no idea why they use the same tune, the extent of my useless information ends there!
