Much has been made of him not singing the national anthem. I agree with his stance due to the words he has to sing. Interested in what others feel about it.

Doesn't bother me, each to their own.

His stance isn't even anything to do with the words.
He never sang it as a player and never has as a manager, due to him being in the zone that close to a game starting.
Massive overreaction from the usual thickos.

Ignoring the fact the anthem isn't England's and that the tune is an utter dirge and the words are regressive horseshit, if anyone thinks the place of an England manager is dependent on them singing a song, they're not really interested in whether the team wins or not, so I'm not overly concerned about their opinion on this issue.

Agree that it sounds like a mail headline story but many have jumped onto it including the ex manager and many without any interest in the game. Once players just stood in respect of the anthem and the oppositions but never sang.

We could change it for Land of Hope and Glory. Although that would be a lie.

He's Irish. Capello never sung it as an Italian. Regardless he says it's because he's concentrating on the game. Gary Neville did the same. Other great British sports people have not sung it. He never sung it when managing the U21s. Good article on it here but it's a storm in a teacup stirred up by the usual suspects. www.bbc.com/sport/football/articles/c17gj5e1krdo

It is, as noted, just more culture war nonsense. Even now some players sing, some don't. It's not reflective of whether they do their best during the game. It also plays into the English/British thing of thinking 'passion' is critical to performance and that there are set ways this can expressed. Results suggest otherwise, but never let reality get in the way of long-held belief.

Colonel Bogey would be a better anthem.

Forgetting for a minute how bizarre it is that some people want others to reign over them, what the hell does it matter if someone sings, mimes or stays with their mouth shut! Talk about focusing on trivialities. He's hardly disrespecting the entire country by politely standing there. He's hardly hip hopping around with a daft grin on his face is he!

He should take the knee when it starts up. Provided someone is live-streaming Jeff Powell's head exploding into a million pieces.

Now there's an idea: an anthem that, instead of being sung, is danced. Interpretively.
