As I recall, the council are sole owners of Life Leisure, so they're backing it in that sense at least.
How close the links are between the two in terms of business decisions isn't something I have the first idea about though.

It's a very strange move to me. The quote in the Express about how County aren't viable (from Malcolm McPhail) is pretty negative too. He says he can sleep at night knowing he's done his best. Pfft. Who's Malcolm McPhail and what has he done? Insert own McFail joke here.......................

Ah it will be, he runs a 'football academy' from stockport sports village with Rob Clare. What i dont get though is arent life leisure run by the council? If so, then... A) How can Stockport Council justify spending tax payers money on creating a new team to play in a borough that already has 4 non-league teams in it (and ive included us in that pfft). B) If the council have spare cash to inject into football, why arent they supporting those clubs already in existance? My info is that the council knew nothing about this. And they knew nothing about Life Leisure investing £50,000 in Stockport County until after it happened. The quotes in the paper have caused a big reaction in high places. There are rumours that Life Leisure tried to get the council to help them buy County, but that the numbers didn't add up. Answering above, (A) the council wouldn't be, it is Life Leisure doing this. They are an independent charity that receives funding from the council to subsidise fitness and sport in the borough. The council don't "own" or run life leisure. My info is running a football club is not what the council expect them to be doing. I reckon this whole thing might have a dramatic impact on their relationship. (B) the council don't have spare money for this at all and, again, my info is they do not welcome Life Leisure doing things like this without any warning or discussion. The council budget gets published sometime soon and there are said to be tens of millions more cuts to be made over the next few years. I'm told there is no money and there has never been a desire to run a football club, County or otherwise, with Life Leisure or not.

The council don't have spare money to invest £15 million into Grand Central and £43 million into the Bridgefield development but they'll raise it because the numbers stack up. They could invest £2.5 million to buy EP if the numbers stack up.

Stockport City FC (SCFC). Someone has got an agenda here. You may be aware that Northwich Victoria were having problems and there owner (Jim Rushe, i believe) set up a team called Northwich Villa (NVFC) who started in the Cheshire league when i played then went onto the NWCFL. Is there a connection here?? Was the club set up.....Just in case???
I dont know what my point is really but someone with some brains may be able to work it out?!?! :-)

As someone who webcasts using the same system for a different authority, the webcast will be available to watch again from Friday midday(ish) after it has finished archiving.
You won't have to watch it all, the agenda points will be indexed so you can skip straight through to the part you are interested in watching.

Looks like the council went ballistic about this tonight?! Yep. Council Leader said Council had no knowledge of this before Express article. She's sounded angry. All four party leaders attacked the Life Leisure football club idea. Comments included that no public money, directly or in kind, should be used for this. One of them also said Life Leisure was "out of control". Another comment was that fans had been repeatedly let down by mismanagement. They also said they had an all-party agreement on how to deal with requests for help from County or those wanting to invest in County - they would help if there is a robust business case and an exit strategy where the council got back any money within 5 years. Their first priority had to be protecting public money.

Those tweets by the journalist have a crucial error - they said they had NOT agreed to put money in (not NOW agreed)!

There was a tweet last night from a Councillor disapproving of the move, so it does not look like the Council are supporting this project.
They should maybe have approved further involvement in County by Life Leisure, but they were equally unimpressed by that suggestion aswell.
The Chinese seem to float the councils boat as they dropped their trousers on all fronts for them apparently, but there is still plenty of time for them to fook that up aswell, and they are only interested in that for talk of jobs in Stockport and not excited for County at all IMO.

At Stockport Full Council - parties united and hugely unimpressed by Life Leisure’s plan to set up a new semi-professional football club
