I am disappointed that we didn’t sign Tshimanga, as I feel with his pace and scoring ability, he would have been a useful link for our Jigsaw and provided the missing part. We do have Quigley, Madden and Reid, but feel that Chesterfield and Wrexham have passed us on the firepower front. Chesterfield now have five competent strikers in Tshimanga, Asante, Rowe, Denton and Tyson with Wrexham having seven!!! Mullin, Hyde, Thomas, Angus, McAlinden, Ponticelli, and Bickerstaff. I would have liked us to have four. Someone like Tshimanga with pace and goal scoring ability to partner Quigley, with Madden joining in a three or in the hole. Madden does like to go deeper to look for the ball. But I am not unhappy with our current squad of players and hope we strengthen a little further as the season progresses. It's possible that certain squads are temporarily inflated in particular departments because players had been signed prior to new managers arriving with their own wants. At Chesterfield, Denton is already expected to be out for at least 2 months with his knee again, and Wrexham's youngster Bickerstaff hasn't yet done anything to suggest he's a competent NL striker, so we should count Alli if he's being counted.

just hope quigley is a goal scoring double of bennett. if so there is no reason why reid cannot prosper again. on paper at the begining of last season reids signing seemed the biggest gamble of the lot. Looking at Quigleys highlight video he isn’t a Bennett.. he’s a Reid… but more aggressive. So unfortunately I don’t rate Reid’s chances of being a regular. Bad luck for him because he’d justifiably argue he’s earned a starting berth. Agree with you on the likelihood of having Madden starting before Reid alongside Quigley. I also think Reid will do really well alongside Quigley. We will have some teams that come and park the bus at EP or even when we go away. We will need a more attacking line up for those games nd as someone said elsewhere Reid Quigley with Madden in just behind and Rooney as an 8 alongside Collar or Croasdale would be very attacking indeed, especially with Ryder and MSH as wingabacks. Barclay and Fish are capable of stepping up into midfield as and when needed in such a formation

We do have a quality healthy squad, which has been thinned quite rightly over the summer. Not seen Hinchy for awhile, so has be gone to Brighton? Also we do need some temporary cover for CJ, unless we can keep our form and stay clear of injuries, suspensions and Covid. Then we will have to dip into the loan market. Still have a feeling we will announce another signing of intent before the month is out. We shall see.

I agree suedehead, but feel we still need a pacy striker as cover for our three someone who is like Tshimanga for pace and scoring ability. That in my opinion may be the piece that would complete the 🧩 jigsaw!!! There is no certainty on when CJ will return to the fold so a loanee would be useful. A pacy striker as cover would be great, but Tshimanga was never going to come here as back up and sit on the bench. Nor should we be throwing big money around on a back up striker. We'll almost certainly bring in players throughout the season, we don't have to have a perfect squad for day one. Probably no more amazing than we paid for Madden.

Suedehead. I think we could have played Tshimanga along side Quigley with Madden in the hole. Paddy likes to go looking for the ball and starts moves he hasn’t got the time to get on the end of.
I would have played Hinchliffe Hogan Fish Barclay MSH Rooney Croasdale Walker Madden Quigley Tshimanga
Ross Minihan Collar Whitfield Reid
Hey ho, we didn’t get him so we move on. But I feel we need someone in the squad who has some electrifying pace.

Perhaps the triallist who played at Burnley yesterday will become that replacement.

I'm sure we could, but we shouldn't be just throwing around another £250k on a player when we've got probably the strongest forward line in the division as it is. We've already spent good money on Barclay, Whitfield and Quigley, as well as the Madden bonanza from last season. Stott is a rich man but come on, it's not Championship Manager and we can't just buy up every good player we see. If we can't mount a challenge with Madden, Rooney, Quigley, MSH, Barclay, Hogan, Fish, Reid etc then there's something seriously wrong.

But I feel we need someone in the squad who has some electrifying pace. Like Southam-Hales? Exactly. MSH is comedy fast. Ridiculous. Can't remember a County player has quick as him, when he gets going the only way to stop him is to leather him. No defender in this league is catching him.

But I feel we need someone in the squad who has some electrifying pace. Like Southam-Hales? It’s not enough to have one pacy player in your team especially when they are a wing back/full back. We struggled massively breaking down the best teams in this league last year due to our lack of pace (except for MSH) throughout the team, Rooney not suiting the 10 role and the lack of balance in the 3412 with everybody coming towards the ball. We’ve had the off season to readdress it and it looks like we’re just going to carry on regardless and largely ignore the issue. This league is the strongest it’s ever been, we’ve undoubtedly spent the most money but I’m not at all confident that we’ll finish ahead of Chesterfield, Wrexham and Notts and if we don’t the blame firmly lies with Rusk and Wilson.

Quigley looks pacey. Not electric pace but enough to run in behind teams.

I like all our signings individually and quality wise they improve us but as good as I think Ross, Fish and Barclay will be they are strengthening an area that we were already strong in and Whitfield is a waste of a signing if we’re sticking with last season’s formation. Nothing we’ve done this summer turns the needle and by the time we realise it I think it will be too late and we’ll be relying on the lottery of the playoffs again.
