is your new tory mp a local bloke or someone who needed google maps on his first visit to the area. in the past there have been local people selected for the 3 main parties who have been elected due to this. i remember when we moved to yorkshire our mp was a local liberal one who held the office for years and tears. once he retired the liberals just manage a poor 3rd place. something for labour to look into and forget box ticking female only candidate stuff that i,m sure has harmed them in the past.
He'd need google maps! His name is Robert Largen and he was a councillor in Fulham, although he claims to have grown up in Manchester. Either way, he is not local to the High Peak, unlike Ruth George who lives in Whaley Bridge. She is now a councillor for Whaley Bridge and is looking to stand again for parliament in 4 years time.
Robert loves being photographed in local pubs holding a pint, but a few have told him directly he's not welcome via social media!
The smarmy toad hasn't even replied to my e-mail asking him to explain his rationale, I dare him to knock on my door again asking for my Vote

Seems it's not just the Tories who have bigots in the party and who don't act properly?

No, it isn’t. Let’s hope Starmer is true to his word and roots out anti-semitism. It needs to be combatted everywhere it raises its ugly head and its ugly head is being raised increasingly. Same with racism and misogyny. It is like we are going back into the dark ages.

However I reckon there are still some very unpleasant people high up in the Labour party ranks and it could take some time before they get back to a more general tolerant outfit that most people want and who can hopefully get rid of the Tories.

I hope there is as deep an investigation into anti-semitism and Islamaphobia in the Tory Party, both of which are as bad, if not worse than anti-Semitism in the Labour Party (pillar box mouths anyone?).
I won't hold my breath though.
Both parties need to sort their shit out on this.

They used it as a very effective attack line during the election though, when it could cause real damage.
They won't touch it outside an election, because they've got plenty of skeletons in their own closet.

It all depends on the outcome of the Forde Inquiry

This post is highly ironic given the amount of times you’ve used the phrase ‘whataboutery’ in this thread. the difference is the Tories never claim to be anything other than scumbags looking after their own. Corbynite labour claimed moral superiority over anyone who disagreed with them, all the while screaming ‘it’s just the press (which happens to be owned by the Jews) making stuff up’ not a good look. and another massive plus for Starmer that he’s acted swiftly. Keep this up, and the hated centrist dads like me might actually vote in his favour.

Hate to point it out as IMO nothing wrong with it most of the time but are you not one of the folk on here always calling out others for this?

I would just like to see the other main party taking action. Tories admitting to being b*stards, not how they like to portray it in the media, not by a long shot. And whilst the media were right to say there was antisemitism in the Labour Party, they often almost deliberately conflated antizionism or anti-Israeli government/foreign policy feeling with antisemitism. As well as deliberately taking several parts of Corbyn's personal history out if context, "Look! Corbyn can't be trusted he hung around with the IRA, here's one picture to prove it!" Sort of nonsense. As for "hated centrist dads", - they've all got in for me! You do what you want. I am very pleased antisemitism and antijudaism is being robustly tackled. That issue aside though, the Labour Party under Corbyn was the first time in my life I felt a major party was truly representing me. Under Starmer I feel they've taken a horrible lurch to the right. I won't apologise for wanting the country's main leftwing political party to actually be properly and robustly leftwing rather than centrist.

I won't apologise for wanting the country's main leftwing political party to actually be properly and robustly leftwing rather than centrist. To be fair, there is ample footage and pictures of Corbyn hanging around with antisemites and tacitly endorsing antisemites. It's a bit of a reach to claim the right wing press took it out of context. For sure the likes of the Daily Mail and the Telegraph aren't going to give you a charitable reading, but there is a difference in my opinion in claiming the problem was 'exaggerated' or a 'smear'. That's endemic of media and print media in our country, we know that is how the game is played - instead Corbyn's gang fell right into their hands by in essence, trivialising anti semitic abuse and coverups in the party. I wouldn't say Starmer has lurched to the right either, there have been numerous policy drips he has announced which suggest he is still sticking to a left wing economic platform so any claims he is the next Blair (with regards to moving to the right) are unfounded fears driven by the bunker mentality the certain sections of the left turn to once things start going awry. He is definitely triangulating on making Labour be perceived as being more authoritarian and tougher on both domestic and foreign policy issues - however that's to repair the damage Corbyn's merry men caused with their long in their tooth 80s style anti-imperialism. If your foreign policy culminates in taking the Russia Today line as was the case with the Novichok poisoning and you want to be PM of this country, then I have news for you. People conflate Starmer's valence politics strategy as being overtly centrist when in reality its just a clean break from the politics of Corbynism which was overwhelmingly rejected by the electorate on multiple issues even beyond Brexit.

All depends whether you feel the purpose of a political party is to make voters lives better, or to make activists feel good about themselves really.
We obviously have differing views on that.
