I know a few police/ex police and I also know a few who were rejected at application stage, in most instances you’d think the recruiters got it wrong both ways. TBF I also know/knew a few in GMP who were very good officers. In a past life when I was quite a bit younger and working in housing I used to work very closely with the police. As with everything, some were great and I happily still have a pint with if I bump into them, others less so. But there’s plenty of people I work with now in a totally different industry who are the same. I didn’t at any point meet any who were openly hostile to any group or who were seemingly in the role to discriminate against certain groups. There were a few who were seemingly totally unsuitable for dealing with the public in sensitive situations because of their personality/manner with people but that’s a totally different thing. I knew a couple of old school MET inspectors a few years ago. They'd retired around or just before 2010 so must have been late 1970s intake. They were really sound. I've known other MET officers who I wouldn't trust with a vulnerable person if you paid me.

Dilemmas… The ‘i’ reckons he’ll regret blocking Corbyn from standing at the next election, but for me the whole “more powers for metro mayors” just feels a bit too Pontius Pilate. You’re elected to do a job, Sunshine. Don’t then palm it off on someone else in the name of plausible deniability local democracy. Probably just as well Labour are also-rans where I live…

If anyone does vote who are not totally aligned to a party its the case of which option is not the worst to put your X against.

It's a dilemma alright, The Tories have ruined the economy and are despite claiming to be the party of low tax hammering us all. I can't forgive the Lib Dems for the whole ConDemnation piece and let's be honest there are really only two horses.
Starmer is another toff and I find it hard to like him in all honesty, very beige but seems the lesser evil.

I'd put Starmer in the latter category.

Stands for nothing and is, as you say, beige. The best thing for the country would be Labour as the largest party in a centre left coalition which can push for long overdue electoral and parliamentary reform. Our system is old and crusty and not at all fit for purpose. We’re running a 21st century country on what is effectively a governmental system from the Middle Ages.

I did the same job and my experience was the same as yours, I found the worst discrimination was resreved for our tenants, race didn't come into it but they were very dismissive about single mums and their kids, I clearly remember one referring to them as scummy, I pulled him up over it but I always got the impression that's how they saw them.

Keir Starmer is a Tory c word. I can’t vote Labour under that tw*t. Dilemmas… He's absolutely horrendous. Personification of the Labour right, who want to flush away all the good of the previous regime. And a massive liar to boot. I mean, he's going to win the next election. It's nailed on. And there will be some pleasure in watching Tories get annihilated. But when you think the government is being replaced by one of Starmer, Reeves and Streeting, you despair, given what we could have had. Bit of extra fun watching Corbyn win as an independent too. Saw the other day someone said he should stand against Starmer. Now that would be fun to watch.

I'm in two minds over this, Corbyn is a good man but he's an easy target for the media and people swallow it.

Now we're joining a trade block on the other side of the world without a referendum, I'm also not sure that shipping goods that distance fits with our green agenda, on the plus side it is expected to boost our economy by 0.08%.

Well that’ll reverse the first 17 seconds of Kwasi Kwarteng’s chancellery…

Keir Starmer is a Tory c word. I can’t vote Labour under that tw*t. Dilemmas… I supported Corbyn and believe he could have been a brilliantly destabilising Prime Minister, a genuine disrupter of the status quo and a leader with the improved lot of the people at the forefront of his policies Unfortunately political reality is getting more of what you want and less of what you don’t Keir Starmer is the best hope right now, and with the only alternative being another Tory Government, I’m embracing hope, I wholly recommend you do too.
