I remember going on the Stalybridge forum and reading about us being billy big bollocks because we were in their club at half time and how we didn't get it that they didn't turn out in numbers to see us, I didn't reLise there was any animosity towards us until reading that.

Without sounding like billy big bollocks, playing County is the pinnacle for most of the local non league lads so they were always bound to be up for it, aggressive and treat it like a cup final. I’m good friends with someone high up with one of our old national league north rivals and he was absolutely devastated when we got promoted, we were a big earner for the local semi pro sides but hopefully that will be a distant memory soon (although I’m not planning the championship parade just yet as it will be a very tough season in my opinion) I think the difference with Stalybridge is that they didn’t approach it like that. Alty and Curzon in particular seemed to develop relationships with us at board level, which will serve all the clubs (including us) well going forward for things like loan players / friendlies etc. FC Utd invented non league football, so I can see why they didn’t get it, but Stalybridge were the only other ones who seemed to actively resent us.

Is this the same Alex Hay who was briefly our scout under Young(?)? Came here to say the same thing. Pretty sure it is. Who was the other scout Young brought in? The one who said Joe Garvin could open a tin of peas with his left foot. Carl Garner

Hopefully they will be a distant memory and part of what will seem to have all been a bloody awful nightmare soon. I used to enjoy pre season friendlies at places like Hednesford but it's kind of ruined it for me. Remember going to Alfreton in around 2006 for a pre season friendly and thinking how much of a shit stadium it was. Didn’t even realise I’d been to the stadium before when I went again about 5 years ago until I got in the ground. Used to be ace going places like Leek aswell, but I think we have all had enough of tin pot stadiums for a lifetime. Walking down that little driveway to North Ferribys ground and getting beat still haunts me, that’s another team I never want to hear about again. Considering they went out of business in 2019 I don't think you will hear much about them again 🤦♂️

It was like Christmas for half the teams in that league when we visited

Yeah, nothing against Curzon, apart from that little spat when Flanagan decided to have a hissy-fit at Gannon, not long before Curzon decided to bin him off. I like Alty. Good luck to them.

It was Curzon binning off Flanagan that lowered the club in my eyes, he did a brilliant job there for most of a decade, then got sacked for a brief downturn in results. Ridiculous.

They're an odd lot. I grew up reading about Celtic as I lived in Dukinfield and they were always on the back page of the Tameside Advertiser. I think they have a bit of a complex as they were once a bit of a force in the Conference and now they're not, and with County playing them at their level, I think it gave them a bit of a boost. Having lived in Stalybridge, as my moniker suggests, I hard ever saw anyone walking around in a Celtic top, of any kind, and they were few and far between on match days. I once bumped into a fan in a takeaway, he was wearing a United scarf and a pin badge on his bomber jacket but was 'a die hard' Celtic fan, he took an instant dislike to me when I said I was a County fan, and that was before we dropped out of the league. We're well rid of weirdos like them.

When we played Altrincham last season, on the way out a steward wished us well for the rest of the season.
A nice touch and a nice club. They are definitely the only local non league side I like, even Curzon were a bit odd.
