Someone mentioned it above but here is the rather sassy quote from the Barrow website in full:
"We were looking forward to seeing John grace the pitches of League 2 but once it became clear he didn’t want to play at our new level we needed to respect his wish to stay in the National League."

On paper a very good signing. I just hope he is a decent character off the pitch and in the dressing room. He did celebrate in front of our fans last season and we have had players from that area cause issues in the past. Especially as we lost a couple of dressing room leaders last week who helped keep everyone's feet on the ground. I initially thought this but if he bangs in 20 for us next season, I think I can forgive him Great signing, lets hope he picks up where he left off from this season!! Wonder if we'll see his granny-sh@gging older brother pop down to EP

So far, the only ‘can grow’ players we have are Minihan, Thomas, Keane & Bell. We’ve then lost our biggest ‘can grow’ asset with Festus now at Hull. Could well be a case of making sure we get the marquee players first, and looking at the younger ones later, but right now, I think Kitching in the only one who isn’t at least late 20s. Curran, Downing? There was another young lad who featured against Blyth in the Trophy last season for a minute or two at the end, Hopkins. Wonder if we'll see more of him?

If either of them make more than a couple of sub apps for us this season then I’d be very surprised. same with me. for years we have been crying out for experiance in our side and now we have got it. when we got it before it was players who were past their sell by date by a couple of seasons and not ones who were successful just in the season gone by.

I like us having shithouses like that playing for us. yes, bring em on. want to win matches and not listening to opposition fans saying what a nice footballing side and players we have after they,ve got a result against us.
