Reports going around that, for schools to reopen, we might have to close pubs again. For me, the 'problem' with pubs is having too many customers in. The four times I have been in a pub since July 4th, it was well regulated, socially distanced, etc. The horror stories are when customers are rammed inside or outside. Much The same as overcrowded beaches, large demonstrations, etc. The hospitality industry is one of the largest employers in the UK, and it needs at least some income. Some pubs are limiting customers to two hour slots. I'd be quite happy with that.

Some of our clients are large pub chains, just been allocated one that will be going to rfp in 6 months- could do with them surviving from a selfish point of view and more so all those jobs.

It's about balance surely, of it means booking a slot so people can keep their jobs so numbers can be controlled then so be it, they cant just shut everything down again, ive just been chatting to a friend who works for a hotel and they're devastated about the current happenings, most bookings cancelled and the bar was quiet, if that carries on there will be more redundancies there and it's very much a local employer in Handforth.

It's a request for proposal we have just under half the business and another vendor has the rest, other 3rd parties will be able to bid too but chances are it will go to one of us already involved as migration would be very tricky to a new party with no connectivity.

honestly just cannot see a connection between pubs and schools. if they said something along the lines of shutting pubs to enable sporting events with crowds to commence i could understand it. mind you not much over the last weeks have been totally understood by me and plenty of others.

No debate in my mind. My kids haven't been to school for six months and are missing out on the routine, social aspect and of course education.

I started a job in a pub this week. Of all the pubs in the area they’ve taken things most seriously. One way system, temperature checks, no ordering at the bar, limits on table size, an app that you order and pay through and table service for those unable to use the app and no entry when all tables are full.
Even with all that in place the way social distancing falls apart when people have had a few makes me shudder at how things must be in pubs that haven’t gone so far.
It also breaks my heart that somehow theatre is deemed unsafe and yet this isn’t. The lobbying power of the hospitality industry on display.
Several of my friends who worked there before I started are expecting they’ll be closed again soon so I’ll likely be back on universal credit before long.

I think either could create a spike and the NHS might not cope with both at once.

Most people in my industry are starting to think the entire sector won’t survive unfortunately. Like you say it’s a shame when you see how busy some other places have been getting.

It’s an awful time for the whole industry. If I didn’t have an active Equity branch I think I’d have lost all hope by now.

If I didn’t have an active Equity branch I think I’d have lost all hope by now. I've been to the pub a few times since they reopened, and I've been really impressed with how they've adapted. Thom's Bar near me has shut because 3 members of staff tested positive. However, they got in touch with all of the customers that had left their details, and apparently not a single customer had caught it, which I think illustrates how effective these measures are. There's also not been (as far as I'm aware) any outbreak related to schools anywhere in the world. There's growing evidence that kids don't spread it. And again, both my daughters school and my sons nursery have adapted really well. Hopefully they'll just get the schools opened as planned and keep the pubs open. The recent flare up is because of no safety precautions / people not socially distancing when they go to each others houses (according to the data). Which is sh*t, but it is what it is.

As much as I admire the positive outlook of your post, there’s also growing evidence that kids can spread it and examples of schools in various countries where whole classes or multiple kids have tested positive. So it depends which news you’re reading.

So it depends which news you’re reading. thats been the problem from day 1. same with face masks. same with theatre closing till god knows when. the whole thing seems to depend on lobbies in certain sections and which behind the scene scientist is the flavour of the month. next thing will be a U turn regarding public transport which must be really strggling financially running empty.
