We’re at home and want to win promotion. Three points please, regardless if it’s early days or the first real test. Being at home means absolutely nothing at the moment.

I’d rather win 2-0 than 5-2. I know that sounds odd but we need a clean sheet. It’s so unlike us to be shipping goals every game, but then again it’s so unlike us to be the top scorers in the division so it all balances out.
I don’t think they’ll dick us like they did last year, at that point they were the best team I’d seen (Boreham Wood ended up being by far the best) and they’ve got some proper quality, but so have we. We’re top of the league. We’re more than capable of winning.
I’ll go for 3-2 County.

It’s more the (lack of) quality of the goals we’re conceding, rather than the number we are letting in.
Torquay / Wealdstone / Halifax & Chesterfield cup goals were all silly errors on our part, it’s only one of the Wealdstone goals, and arguably the Chesterfield league goal scramble that you’d put down to the opposition doing well, rather than us cocking up the basics.

On that subject, I could see us being in the market for a new keeper at some point. Not a knock on Ben as such, just that with the financial clout we've got, could see Jim seeing it as a position that could be upgraded.

Yeah, what HTC said. We’re not getting carved open by great movement or conceding 30 yard screamers that you can’t really do anything about. Pretty much every goal has been soft and very unlike us. And conceding means we of course have to score twice to win. At the moment we’re doing that just fine but we do need to cut out the goals and the soft stupid free kicks because they’re costing us.
Solihull scored off the back off a soft free kick at EP last season. A endless foul over by the touch line, high ball into the box and they score from it.

I’m also not confident with this one. I was struggling to remember us actually beating Solihull at all, and according to Flash Scores we’ve only won 1 of our 8 games against them vs 5 wins for them and 2 draws.
The highlights from Chesterfield again are “on another day...” as we had chances but didn’t put them away. That’ll probably happen a fair bit in amongst the games we score 3, 4 or 5.
3-1 Solihull on this occasion for me 😬

A low-scoring win with a clean sheet is always more satisfying than one where we've let cheap goals in. Solihull keep a lot of clean sheets. It'll be tough.

Whilst 1-0 or 2-0 is great, it also has the feeling of being a bit routine. Nothing beats the feeling of winning 3-2 having been 2-0 down. Of course 3-2 wins like that come with their own nervous emotional rollercoaster. And I am in no way advocating going 2-0 down in the hopes of getting an exciting 3-2 win, as that of course brings it's own dangers. But it isn't automatically true that a low-scoring 1-0 or 2-0 win is better than a high-scoring. Personally I prefer a big win with a clean sheet, 4-0, 5-0, 6-0, or even more. 🙂

A big win and the game is usually dead after an hour and just counting down to the end. Give me a tight 1-0, such as Spennymoor at home, over a 6-0 at Chester any day. The occasional big win is great, but a 1-0 is my favourite.

Teams that go a goal up then try to defend it invariably make a mistake or suffer from a deflected equaliser or moment of inspiration. We invited Chesterfield forward on Saturday and there was no surprise when the scored. I'd prefer to see us 3 up before we start to tempt fate.
I think we may see a completely different structure tomorrow night however I hope it's not solely to counter their system. We seem to be more reactionary to others rather than letting them worry about us. I'd also like to see Rooney and Croasdale feature. Give them something to worry about.

I genuinely take more enjoyment out of a resolute defensive performance than overcoming a deficit - so much rather a 2-0 than a 4-2. I'll take 39 4-2s if you're offering them though.
