Which league team used to always kick off at 3.15 on a Saturday and why?
This goes back to the 60’s/70’s

I remember Torquay used to play Saturday nights for some reason. I vaguely remember the 3.15 ko but not sure who or why.
Bury?

I think Torquay had 7.30 kick offs on Saturday to reduce away teams possible overnight expenditure that would be necessary for a 3 pm kick off on a Saturday
In those days I guess M5 probably stopped at Bristol or just past bristol

It was not Bury but it was a team we do not like (it is not Burnley)
3.15 kickoff was because of factory shifts near ground finishing and to allow fans 3xtra 15 minutes to get to the game

Didn't some of them in shipping/fishing towns or towns with one big employer like Scunthorpe kick off late to fit in with shifts at the big employers, to allow staff to be able to get to the game in time for kick off?

This goes back to the 60’s/70’s Definitely Bury although there may be others Programme from our game, (the famous 9 man start!) in 1981. Shows a 3.15 start. Also mentioned was Torquay. I was at college in Devon 1972-75 and most of their games were played on Saturday evenings - provided for a decent might out, football followed by the delights of the English Riviera!!

Slightly off topic but relevant to those times, Grandstand presenter Frank Bough passed away on Wednesday but only announced today. RIP Frank.

My old man was a Stoke fan.

Back then in the 90s most of the bigger clubs used to kick off at 7.45 presumably because of the larger crowds and eventually it seems others just aligned with them.

As you say, it was always 7.30 for a midweek game, till the late 90s I am guessing. It used to be even earlier than that back in the day. Pre floodlights 7.15pm, 7.pm, 6.30pm even if required, were common as clubs needed to play when there was light. When floodlights came in they realised they could kick off later, allowing more fans home and away the chance to get to the game. I'm guessing that around this time people's working and living habits changed, and so slowly clubs moved to 7.45pm kick-offs to allow even more time for fans to get to the game. Old days - no light, but people lived and worked close to their clubs - so early evening kickoffs. Nowadays - floodlights, but people live and work further from their clubs - so later evening kickoffs.

Back in the 70s, before Football was invented, Carlisle were in the First Division and had had a blinding start to the season. I seem to remember some kerfuffle with the big boys over kick off times as Carlisle had changed theirs in line with milking times.
I've looked on the internet but can't trace it. I'm sure I didn't imagine it though.
