We’re f*cking wealthy, but f*cking rotten to the core. A total debacle. Embarrassingly so.

They do seem to have learnt something over summer, yeah. I fear the legacy of last season’s recklessness might take a while to sort out though because of the lengths of the contracts. I agree better management would get far more out of this team. Whether it’s good enough I’m not sure, but it’s not as bad as the lower-mid-table shite we’ve looked like so far. I think there’s definitely an attitudinal problem - JG alluded to it, and SR seems to be hinting at the same thing in the last couple of weeks. If we do have a new manager coming in, it’ll be interesting to see whether there’s an upturn in results; and if there is, whether it can be sustained, or whether after a period of time we’d see a reversion to the mean. Genuinely think we're absolutely f*cked. Too much rashness and naivety on the transfer market. We've a handful of players who are effectively our neo-Social Loafers who are going to take us backwards. Let's admit...too many got too carried away and, might I say, were a little overly eager to shit on the viewpoints of those such as myself who were erring towards caution in the early days. I'll be candid. I wonder now what the plan is. I still, singularly, can't fathom the thinking behind signing Rusk. There's no element of that decision that makes sense. Other than one which I'll just get mocked for contemplating. Hum. Neo Social Loafers is a pretty impressive term but the most interesting part of your dissertation is why SR was given the job for three years with his semi retired assistant. A huge risk that Stott would never take in his other businesses but he has taken it with fairly obvious results. I was shocked when I heard SR explain the Sutton home loss. He has been consistently unimpressive since and how he persuaded anybody to offer him a contact is in my opinion the most staggering piece of bufoonery since Chamberlains belief in that piece of paper.

Completely agree. But i also think you can look at the recruitment this summer as to how that’s changing. We’ve got a much smaller squad. Got rid of dead wood like Maynard, Bell, Thomas and Bennett. Signed younger players and youth prospects. And then just added a couple of quality additions like Quigley and Whitfield. It’s not been perfect. We’ve obviously seen the imbalance with the lack of left footers and then the search for a fourth striker. (Although I will say I was happy to go with three and just bring in loans as needed to cover). I don’t t think the issue lies with the recruitment or squad profile. I do believe the players are here to get us promoted. We just need someone to get the best from them. Any new manager is obviously going to want their own team in place, which is fair enough. If Rusk goes I imagine we’ll say bye to Beard, McGhee and Conlon as well. So that will cut things down particularly if Wilson limits whoever comes in to just one assistant manager. I think you’re right that there’s attitude issues, which will have been compounded by the fact that when they first emerged the powers that be sought to dump the manager rather than let the manager deal with those problems. While I don’t have much in the way of “sympathy” for Simon Rusk - he either came in with his eyes open and new what he was getting into or he came in with them shut and didn’t both of which are his fault to an extent - I do feel like he was on a bit of a hiding to nothing here and it needed to work last season for him. There are too many egos (daddies) in the dressing room and he doesn’t seem have the authority to reign them in when they need to be. Some of that is his own fault by being an easy going pally manager, but some of it is definitely a result of the club bending that was do previously.

The same squad that has given us some of the best away form the club’s ever had. Not denying there’s not egos but they’re good players. Just needs the right appointment now to make it come good. And is, in terms of pounds for level, probably the most expensive squad we’ve ever assembled as well

I started wondering last night whether Football Manager really is to blame for the state we’re in. Because if it is, then we’ve basically become a postmodern football club. Like, insofar as the Simon is modelling a real football club after a simulation of the game. Baudrillard must be loving it.

It's often referred to as "The Project" but it would be more accurate to call it "The Experiment." And it's failing.

Yeah, most of us probably would. But it doesn’t have to be shit or bust, does it? I think changing the manager without changing the strategy that’s led us to this point would be lunacy. Either you stick with the shitshow we’ve got and hope it works, or you look at the whole thing - the recruitment, the huge contracts, the size of the coaching staff, and yes obviously the management of the squad, and say ‘yep, we got that wrong, let’s do things differently’. Adam Thomas wasn't deadwood for County, he helped us achieve promotion and he's doing very well at Curzon. I don't think he is a first choice option, but we should definitely kept him as cover. He's got a phenominal work rate too and can get up and down the line all day. We've seen injuries to Minihan and Southam Hales and the lack of a decent option down the right - added to injuries to Kitching and the retirement of Jennings, has totally distroyed Rusk's preferred wing back system. And he doesn't have a plan B.
I was no fan of Ritchie Bennett, some of the misses he made from a few yards out were horrific, but it was clear what role he was there to do. We don't have a target man to hold the ball up anymore, someone to hold the ball up and bring Reid or Madden into play. We hoof the ball upfield and concede possession straight away.
With the injury to Quigley we have no option as a target man, but we don't adapt our style of play or bring in a replacement.

Having a DOF is fine so long as his role is clearly defined. Manager says I need a left sided centre back, DOF says 'here's three options - which do you want'. Or starts lining up junior squad members to bring through over the next x years. That's grand.
Now I don't know is whether that's what is happening, but if it is, Rusk doesn't seem able to build a properly balanced team / squad from that. In his previous role that wasn't necessarily his priority - so the imbalance in the squad may stem from that. At the same time, he doesn't know how to get the best out of players like those we have now - either tactically, or performance wise. The players we have should be turning out better performances than they are - there's no hiding from that. The system doesn't work, and we seemingly don't have anything else. Having a style of play seemingly centred completely around Quigley with no back up for him just seems bonkers.
If things aren't happening as above, then you'd have to hope we'd bring in an experienced manager who makes clear from day one where the lines are drawn.
Wilson has acheived some good off the pitch with the set up... but he shouldn't be someone we're even bothered about as a fanbase in my view. He should sit in the background, and be a tool for the manager. With the manager we have seemingly being so lost, and having come in when he did/ in the circumstances he did, Wilson is front and centre.

100% need Rusk to go, he’s clueless! But Wilson is the main issue. Stotts got to recognise this! He’s got rid of fantastic manager in Gannon, filled the club with overpaid dross (madden) and is somehow not responsible for any of it!
Stott - get his arrogant elongated head out of this club!

I completely understand calls for Wilson to go, but hear me out on this - the squad he has assembled should be capable of a lot more than this, and the responsibility for that is squarely on the shoulders of Rusk. I cannot believe that a more experienced manager with tactical versatility and a more keenly developed sense of how to manage each game as it plays out wouldn’t be able to get a tune out of them.
