I’m baffled by this, if Hartlepool didn’t want to loan the player why didn’t they just say no? What’s this ‘putting forward a deal they knew wouldn’t be acceptable’ about?

Sounds like their chairman wants to come across as having played hardball with us. He’s clearly peed off about us nicking Challinor from them.

Sam's now deleted that tweet, I think?
Surely Hartlepool could have rejected our approach if they didn't want ZFA to go out on loan. Nothing to stop them doing that besides ZFA not being too pleased if he wanted to join us.

They could have and justified it as needing cover (I think he was on the bench consistently before the move). But they don't have to justify it at all unless he's got something in his contract about approaches. They can just say tough. You're not going. Putting together a deal that you think the other side will always reject is basically doing that but trying to push the responsibility elsewhere.

A little contradictory though with “a deal to stop him going there” and “only fair to let him move/play”.

A little contradictory though with “a deal to stop him going there” and “only fair to let him move/play”. Agreed, but I think he was saying that he realised it was 'only fair' when he saw how upset he was. It's not a new thing, realising that it's counterproductive to keep a player when he wants to leave.

''"So if the two players are not in the managers plans and get a chance to get fixed up for next season and financially secure their families future for a year or two, then I think it is the right thing to do to let them go.'' This is interesting. ZFA isn't with us next season, as it stands. Does that and his reported reaction to the move being off suggested that a contract for next season is practically a done deal? Surprised at his reaction as there's no guarantee that he starts here either especially with Johnson at LCB, Hippo at LWB and hopefully Rydel soon too.

I think he just means a chance to earn himself a new contract.
