Wasn't that on Booth St.? There was one either side of the roundabout. Only one I can remember/recall is the one that was behind where the car was is now opposite Our Lady’s church

I see that the guy who owns/heads up Bask is stepping away from the business on health grounds.

Just a quick Stockport related question...
Does anyone know when traffic lights were installed on Portwood roundabout? I remember it being a nightmare for new drivers. I'm thinking early 90's.

Good question. I swear it was much more recent than that (as in maybe 2000-2006 ish time) but I could be absolutely miles off there.

I will still literally drive half-way round the borough to avoid that abominable terror-ride, traffic lights or no traffic lights. I mean it's got actual buses driving diagonally through the middle, for God's sake. And quite possibly a legion of Japanese soldiers in there, unaware that World War Two has concluded. Certainly snipers in the inside lanes. If I really really need to get to Brinnington, I'll take the 325, and thank you very much.

The lights make it much more user friendly and only half the people are in the wrong lane these days, give it a go.

Be fair. You're only in Spain because you missed the Bredbury turn.

Used to go round the Portwood roundabout on a pushbike when I worked at Parfetts in the 80s, before the lights or the lanes. I must have been f*cking mad. Coming from the Bredbury road, then passing 3 exits, including the motorway one, before heading up Tiviot Way. On a f*cking bike. Mind you, I used to regularly buy booze for parties from Parfetts, using the staff discount, and ride back home with it. One more than one occasion, I came down Tiviot Way with a four pack of beer straddling my crossbar, and held in place by my knees. Definitely mad. Only time I was ever in trouble was on the way back one afternoon. I came down Tiviot Way, passed the eastbound motorway sliproad, then left for Carrington Road. I was then bumped by a car heading for Brinny as I moved across to head straight on. I was knocked about 10 feet forward, but amazingly managed to stay up. I turned in the saddle, ready to unleash a torrent of abuse only to see a fit young woman apologising profusely from the drivers seat. I did an "aw shucks, it was nothing" face and carried on.

Wow- nice recovery! I'm now imagining all of the lanes full of attractive women in open-topped sportscars, to see whether this makes me any nearer to taking up Vicar's suggestion that I take my life into my hands. I can't say it's yet having a discernible effect. Maybe if they each come equipped with a four-pack of beer. And invite me to straddle their crossbars. Yes, it's starting to work now.
