Some fixture shenanigans going on in the VNL.
Last week saw Gateshead vs Aldershot postponed (just 15 minutes before kick-off), the final round of fixtures are next weekend. Since they all kick off at 12:15 for TV, the VNL decided it should be re-arranged for Wednesday rather than Thursday.
Problem is Gateshead hosted Chesterfield on Tuesday, so the league moved that game to Monday. But they never actually consulted Chesterfield about it, so they're unhappy, and loads of fans had to cancel train tickets or make new arrangements.
Goodness knows what'll happen if the wet weather today means any more call-offs.

Alty have made the playoffs which is a great achievement, it looks like Oldham have missed out after drawing at already relegated Oxford City.

I went en route from Bedford after asking Mrs tgttiw dad if I could marry her. The football was inconsequential.

Looks like little old Curzon Ashton are going to have their highest ever NLN finish this season and almost certainly finish in the play-offs (11th being the previous best). Did the double over Scunthorpe who will be 2nd behind Tamworth - an astonishing achievement overall really for our near/nearest (?) neighbours with such minimal home support, only v Chester 1110 attendance being in four figures, with v Peterborough Sports lowest home gate on 149.
9200 aggregate attendance over the whole season, average 400; the Tameside Stadium though is up to NL standards.
It was the 9200 that really hit me; local support is clearly very sparse (ditto Ashton Utd), and from what I can see on the tram when I use the Ashton line, most locals appear to go to City, some to Utd, a very few to Oldham, and even less to County. I know County has some support from the three SK bits of Tameside (the Cheshire bits), but the rest seems pretty arid.

Would be an ideal place for a couple of them to settle local differences and combine.

Yes. Have never got it and never will where somebody splashes cash on some obscure club when there are a few with a fanbase and ground already that are crying out for this to happen to them. Thank goodness Mark Stott didn,t feel that way and rolled up at a local level 9 outfit.
