Can't give words to justify Madden's role in the last few years. All we can say is thankyou and good luck. Legend.
Croasdale and Hippolyte too, both would be good signings for L2 teams. Played massive roles. Croasdale in particular has been fundamental.

One thing that hasn't been mentioned much it seems and has understandably gone under the radar is Jordan Smith being released.
I imagine there will be another goalkeeper for Hinchliffe to fight off competition for, I imagine we looked at Smith and just didn't see him as good enough to compete and challenge Ben. I can't see us releasing Smith to just bring in a goalkeeper who will be happy to be number 2.

Croasdale definitely gets a league 2 club but wouldn't be surprised to see hippolyte drop to national league if Yeovil or Hartlepool manager sell it to him. 100% understand he is good enough for league 2 but look at the players we've signed while in national league.

We buy wyll stanway from Chester and they sign Bobby Jones

What a way for Paddy Madden to sign off. Player of the month, title winner and a hat-trick in the game that sealed the title. I had a feeling this was likely to happen so I was ready for it but still a very sad feeling when I saw the announcement. He's a player I'll remember very fondly forever, a model professional and officially one of our all time great goal scorers. One of League One's all time great goal scorers also, despite taking a couple of years out to help us get out of non-league. His goal on the final day against Halifax is one I'll watch over and over again for years to come, the coolest and calmest man in the stadium taking charge and diffusing all of the anxiety and tension with a moment of real quality. It almost certainly deflated Wrexham as well and contributed to their collapse which made the final day of that season a very enjoyable one.
I really thought things were fizzling out for him with us this year but look how he stepped up when we needed him. His character is going to be harder to replace than his goals.
Best of luck Paddy.

I’m wondering if the contract negotiations (that must have been going on for a few months) were playing on Paddy’s mind mid season when he definitely wasn’t at his best. If so he certainly refound his mojo and finished on a real high.

Gutted about Madden leaving like to seen him stay for another year as his experience would be invaluable for that transition but I understand us not offering anything more than a year
Sometimes though I do feel it is best to leave your legacy intact when you still have a bit more to give and go out on a high, as im not sure i'd enjoy if he did sign for another year only to then have to watch him gradually be phased out to the periphery through the season rather than being the integral man to the team
He obviously be a top earner and I do think his season has been peaks and troughs, but he really delivers for us in the big moments, he also gives great value off the pitch, but maybe it is time to use that free budget on a younger marquee signing and leave Paddy legacy as going out at the top with us
He will be a fantastic acquistion for someone though, a great leader, standard setter and player, repaid every penny he has cost and more, his longevity in the game is testament to how he goes about things
Hippo and Croasdale think writing been on wall for last month they werent going to be offered anything and i think its the correct decision on both at 29yrs of age, we ought to be looking at a different younger profile that can give us quality whilst being saleable assets too
Both those two no frills signings that have given us plenty and go as double champs
Ben I really hope signs he is a young 35yr old and these days keepers can go to 40's no problem
Think a couple of those still negotiating with could leave wouldnt be surprised if CLE moves back down south but equally be happy enough for him to stay which didnt think i'd be saying a few months back so fair play to him
Love us to get MSH back to what he was prior to his injury then he is a huge asset and Rydel too though if he left I could see us bringing in Bristow instead
It's going to be a big window for us and be interesting see who we bring in and how deep we delve into the VITA chequebook, expecting 7-8 signings now
Glad to take a bit of County downtime now and act like a normal human for a couple of months and see what materialises

The squad if everyone who was offered a new contract signs it.
3 players I can see moving on
CLE - move down south Sarcevic - wants multiple years Byrne - need an upgrade and never understood him getting a 2 year deal

We need of the top of my head: GK RB - even if MaSH stays or is it Okeke? RCB LCB LB - could be Rydel
CDM Replacement for Sarce
Louie Barry (or similar) A N Other striker (lad from Leicester?)
I would expect Cody Johnson and Ashton Mee to go out on loans but would be good if one of them stepped up a la Ethan Pye.
That would be possibly 9 coming in - we had a massive squad as we had so many injuries - surely won’t see that happening again. If we plan to play a diamond midfield then we would need another one or two midfielders ideally.
That is a pretty radical squad change.

Plus some of the those under contract are likely to be off Fair point Hedders - we will also be getting interest in the manager. I can only see him going somewhere that has better facilities and a much bigger wallet than our owner. Would have to be a Sunderland-ish club I would think.

MSH being the obvious one but we've no idea if Collar, Rydel and Stretton will make complete recoveries. Nice to see all 4 aren't being thrown under the bus by the club but there's always going to be that doubt that they'll return good enough and fit enough for a L1 squad. Thanks for the memories Paddy.

Think we'll all miss Paddy and its a pity him and the club could not reach some deal for an extra season. However if you take his last season with us and he started it how he ended but his form fell away i think there would be more of us not as unhappy as were are now. If i remember correctly its only a few months ago when some were saying he was finished and the best he could get was a sub spot in their prefered team. Eventually we,ll be saying goodbye to Ben and all the other of our favourites now and in the future. Question now is who will we sign to replace him and the others. A good large squad with everyone capable of doing a job got us where we are and we need to carry on just the same. Somehow i doubt the names that mentioned on here will be the ones as they never seem to be.
