I did say he was making up the numbers but I'm just offering up a scenario which is unlikely but possible considering he's 21 and not 18. Louie Barry is nowhere near good enough for Aston Villa and he will not be staying there. We should try and buy him now, if not try and loan him for the season, he is great to watch and I hope we pursue a deal when he is back and available in a few weeks but if not we shouldn’t worry for one second about whether he stays there. He’ll be loaned or sold, if to us great, if not good luck to the lad and we get someone else There are dozens of “Louie Barry” type players in Premier League and Championship squads nowhere near their first team level and we will be a very attractive destination for many of them, so FFS can we please stop talking about this Rant over Love to the family Thanks Colin.

I don’t see an issue with it being talked about. Where I have a gripe is the people replying to everything the club put out being responded to with “Louie Barry???” and people deciding that because he’s not come here yet that means he’s not coming. Nothing has changed. He’s going to go somewhere, hopefully us, but if not then we’ve got a strong squad anyway. Stotters didn’t start this but he definitely fuelled the fires with his end of season interview. He defo wants it to happen so there is a v good chance of it happening - one way or another. True. It was always burning, since the world’s been turning.

Just listened to TSBW and sure they said there were rumours in Spain that Nick Powell might be leaving. Anyone know any more of this? There were murmurs though nothing concrete of a falling out with DC rather than an injury, I'd be happy to see him move on tbh, talent only takes you so far, desire and hunger isn't there for me never liked his profile to hand a 3yr deal out on top money Undoubted ability but showed only glimpses last year never took games by scruff of neck

Hope the Powell stuff is either incorrect or gets resolved quickly.
Otherwise we’re stuck with an incredibly expensive player for another 2 years. Doubt anyone else will pay him what we do.

That's pretty much nailed on now Sam's reporting it then isn't it. I suppose it makes sense to have the additional option on a loan that will be relatively low-cost and won't count towards the Squad List limits.

Sometimes its best to cut your loses in everything in life. We have only seen what he is capable of in flashes and thats not good enough for me. What he or any player has done in the past has nothing to do with how they,ll perform at the present or the future. Have we actually seen the best we,ll see of the bloke, an interupted season which players get or just a player we need rid of. Even his fans must have expected more from him but at least he gave me the pleasure of seeing one of our best all time goals with that quickly taken free kick an long pass at grimsby.

How many loans can we have? Mellon is 1 and the Palace LB looks like 2.

We need a potential first choice there with pace. If we play a back 3, we don't have a wingback with pace (presuming Fevrier plays higher). Rydel is still recovering from now two big injuries and is unproven at this level along with Touray who is very much a LB. In terms of quality EPL loans where are we on the scale of Fish to Bennett to Raikhy/Richards to Barry?

Likewise but I struggle to see who he could go to unless we continue to pay a chunk of his wages. If he stays, I hope he absolutely smashes it with us. There's been signs and he certainly played his part last year. But we haven't got value for money yet and there's always been question marks as to how he fits with DC's style (front foot, pressing), fitness (both regular injuries and lasting 90 mins) and system if we play a 2 or 3 man centre midfield as 4-3-3 / 3-4-3 / 3-4-1-2.

Yep, heard this last night.
Great signing and will massively improve the LB position.

If we were to cut losses with powell one way or another.
Attacking mids we only have fiorini and Bailey. Bailey who for me personally, isn't good enough for League 1.
We would need to find someone who can actually work in at 10 and also an 8 instead of a 10 in certain formations/systems
His name has been mentioned before on here but someone like will patching would be a good option. Having watched him a few times this season (Ireland league is different times) since he got mentioned, I've been impressed and derry have played 4231 and 352, and he's played 8,10, and even upfront.
Transfermarkt says his contract is up at the end of the season in Ireland which is November time so it wouldn't cost much if anything - maybe just throw a sell on clause to get him before his contract runs up at an awkward time for English football

A "4/6" as the holding mid then 2 box to box mids / "8"s either side works or an 8 plus someone more creative Forini as a hybrid 8/10 (as you say). If Powell moves on I'd expect us to bring in at least another mid though - we seem to be in the market for one already.
