Am I correct in thinking that anyone talking about pivots on a football pitch was born 1992 and onwards? Was just thinking that. Get the ball forward and put it in the onion bag. Done.

We played a double pivot against Blackburn so I suspect we’ll see a back 3, two wing backs, a double pivot and 3 interchangeable up front. As we know though, formations are fluid. Don't like Touray as a wing back though and with MSH, Rydel and Adaramola out we're not blessed with wing backs. What's the situation with Rydel?

Possibly as a replacement for Keilor Dunn, I've probably spelt it wrong but they're similar types of players.

glad you asked🤣 & even more bemused by double pivot! God I miss the days of a simple 442🤣 Maybe it’s the bit of ground that sticks up what contains what used to be in the ground before a divot was formed

The double pivot is the cause of all these knee injuries

The double pivot is the cause of all these knee injuries I saw Double Pivot at Knebworth in ‘92.

As I’ve not got a clue what formation/line up etc we’ll be playing, for the reasons Mattyovrio has mentioned, I’ll answer a slightly different question: if you were appointed manager today (god help us), what formation and playing style would you go with, and what business, if any, would you be asking the recruitment team to do? Formation: 4-3-3, switching to 4-2-3-1 where needed (games where giving Bate more time on the ball matters more than a sustained press). Playing style: high pressing, intense, with the ball moved forward quickly whenever possible, generally through short passing and quick interchanges. A combination of how we played with Barry and Tanto up front last year and the National League title-winning season. Transfers: my only definite addition would be a physically dominant midfielder who loves a tackle, mainly a DMC but ideally able to play box to box too. Then possibly a young RB on loan, depending on when MSH is back. A striker on loan if Mellon’s done his ACL (but not if it’s an MCL or similar). If Hamilton or Luker became available I’d love them as loan additions, but not hugely necessary at this stage. Sell Powell if he’s not interested. Loan out Stretton and the youngsters. Means the final squad looks like: GK - Ben/Addai RB - Knoyle/MSH/loan CB - Horsfall/Hughes CB - Pye/Connolly LB - Touray/Rydel/Adamarola DMC - new signing/Mingi MC - Bate/Camps MC - Collar/Fiorini RW - Fevrier/Bailey CF - Tanto/Mellon/Wootton LW - Barry/Diamond Hamilton is joining Middlesbrough on a permanent

Might make sense - I was hugely impressed when I saw him play for Woking last season, but going from a team scrapping near the bottom of the National League to League One might be a bit too much of a jump, especially if Luton want him to start regularly. Regular minutes in League Two might be the way to go. Definitely one I'll be keeping an eye on, though - he's got the raw attributes to go a long way.

Don’t think Blackpool would loan him to us in the same division so may return to Tranmere on loan or we buy him. But one of Hamilton, Luker or Apter would be great.

I think there goes any chance of Knoyle being fit for Saturday.
