How the f*ck is Challinor going to pick an 11 when everyone's fit? There's just top players everywhere you look.

Mingi out and we'd have 2 LBs out, 2 RBs, a RCB/RB, a CB and a utility defender (Connolly). Really has to be Onyango at RB or more likely a back 3 with Onyango and Fevrier RWB.

Mingi is a blow. We really have to bring in a RB. Hopefully it's more cramp after a reduced preseason or a small injury at worst. I'd live with that for Mellon being back with us soon. Having him, Tanto and Diamond/Fevrier on the bench is a frightening prospect. doesnt look like a rb

So no RB planned then. I sort of get that with 3 players who can play there as well as other options than can fill in but you can only count MSH and Knoyle as half a player until the next window (by availability) and now Mingi is a doubt.

Mingi was defo his hamstring, hopefully nothing bad he’s been really solid so far.

I’m sure if Mingi is anything longer than a few weeks then that will change.

Good debut for Norwood but I still don’t agree with the 3 year contract but will reserve judgement on that until 2026-7 . He also played 90 plus mins as well so isn’t too far behind Powells 2023-4 season contribution . We looked very comfortable and professional second half today and didn’t miss Powell one iota if anyone is still uncertain on what I think of him . Opinions heh !

This whole making-everything-about-Powell schtick is pretty boring isn't it.

Reserving judgment on that until the third year is a bit silly. He may have dropped off by then but the deal may not have been possible, at least this window, without giving him 3 years. You probably should judge a player at the end of their contract (though no one in football ever does) but if he gives us 2 good (or better!) years that will be enough for me. And that's on top of the know how and experience he brings to the group to help others. Edit - I don't know for definite but say if 2 years plus an option simply couldn't be agreed - I'd think we would have preferred that. The question is not whether we should have given Norwood 3 years but it's whether we are better getting Norwood now on 3 years or potentially not at all.

At the start of the season quite a few fans wanted consolidation with a mid table finish. Do those fans feel the same now. With a dozen players injured this team is flying!

Don't think anyone has said they want a season of consolidation? I think some, myself included, have said they'd be happy with midtable (expecting about 10-12th) with the step up and squad overhaul to a younger, development squad. That doesn't mean we (or at least me) think we're not capable of going higher, especially if we get to grips with our injuries. We've also made ambitious signings recently in Barry and Norwood. Still, I think it's far too early to draw conclusions though. We haven't played anyone strongly tipped for the POs or up yet. It's really promising but let's see where we are after 10 games. Even then last season the top 4 after 10 was Notts, Crawley, Swindon and Gillingham (3 of those didn't even make the POs, none the automatics) with us and Wrexham 8th and 9th. And our first 10 are quite favourable too. We play Bolton, Wrexham, Birmingham, Peterborough, Huddersfield and Rotherham in November and December that will tell us a lot.

We won’t have a clue how good this team really is until the end of December when we play all the favourites in quick succession. The saving grace of that is we should hopefully have a full squad to choose from by then!

3 goals and 0 assists in 32 appearances for a player of that quality stepping down to League 2 was a disappointing return in my opinion. I liked how he looked when he played but wasn’t impressed with the end product. Hopefully he can improve on that this season. That’s the most basic way of looking at a player’s contribution though. That doesn’t account for things like his 50 yard pass to Lemon at Grimsby, which led to Tanto scoring, or his outside of the boot pass to Hippo against Accrington, which led to Wootts scoring. A wise man on here once called it the assist assist (yes, looking at you Matbot). Stats don’t always = full picture. I was talking about secondary assists long before Mat was posting on here. They’re treated the same as primary assists in ice hockey.
