I think one of my mentors as an apprentice at Woodford, Dick Young, might have played for Macc in the match you've got this shirt from. I don't suppose anyone on here has a programme from the game do they? I think County signed him from Grimsby before he went to Macc where he was an F.A. Trophy winner in their 2-0 1970 final victory over Telford Town at Wembley, the 1st ever final of that competition. Macc won the Northern Premier League the same season becoming double winners in the semi pro game. Sunderland fan, great bloke. Told me to watch out for Graham Taylor when he was still a coach at Watford. Said he'd manage England one day. Died of cancer when only in his 50's. Oh our No 9, Dick Young. What memories. That song. When Young was on the western front, parlez vous!!! I know it's way off subject but that period was only around 20 years after the war so songs like that and it's a long way to dear old Wembley and Daisy Daisy were sung around the country, we also had blue scarves over the white cliffs of Dover.

I've got his orange away shirt from an FA Cup defeat at Macclesfield in 1967, must be one of the only remaining ones in the world. I won't go into details about the end of his life but you're right. There was a strong ex County contingent in that side apart from Dick Young. Frank Beaumont and 3 others whose names i have forgotton. After their exploits that season they never attempted to apply for FL status which makes you wonder if their board at that time had more idea on if the area could support a league club than later owners did.
