After Shamrock Rovers won their game in hand on Monday, and Derry City defeated St Pat's tonight, the title gap is now two points, but Rovers can extend the gap once more when they play Sligo tomorrow. At the bottom, Finn Harps drew at home to Shelbourne, and move off the bottom on goal difference, after UCD lost to Bohs. In the First Division, Galway's draw away to Treaty United means that Cork only need four points from their final three games to secure promotion. Would be nice to see updates on here - I was a Candystripes fan from way back in the Irish League days, I remember seeing Fay Coyle banging a fair few in in the mid-60s. We used to go over to Derry on holiday every year to see family and my cousin was a hardcore Derry fan so I got dragged along to the Brandywell every year.

Always kept an eye out for Shels ever since Gannon joined them back in the day. They've certainly had an interesting recent history...

You'd enjoy the recent documentary about them called "Different League", it has been shown by both BBC and RTE - just checked now, not on the iPlayer, but it is on the RTE Player app.

The full title is "Different League: The Derry City Story" - says that it continues to be available for the next few weeks, but that might just be in the Republic, rather than internationally.

'Different League' is an excellent documentary - I caught it when it was on iplayer. Well worth a watch if you can find it somewhere. Really captures what following a team, your local team, is all about - the passion, the sense of belonging, the pride, the agony, the highs and lows. There are a few short clips on iplayer.

Never seen a league of ireland team play or a welsh one either. Just wonder what the standard is like in ireland compared to wales and the bottom two scottish divisions. Many of the top LoI players this season have been signed by League One clubs (Devoy and Grant went to MK Dons, Mandroiu to Lincoln), but given that Ogbene and Kelly are both thriving at Rotherham after moving directly from the League, I'd argue the standard is closer to the lower end of the Championship.

Thanks for that - found it, watched it. Cried a bit. My cousin was Charlie McLaughlin, who died in 2015. He was always passionate about Derry City and, although he wasn't one of the 'Gang of Four' he was always in the background during the club's renaissance. He used to run a bar in William St until he got kidnapped and the bar bombed out. Very heavily involved with John Hume and the SDLP until he died.

One of my best mates lives over in Derry now. We try and get to a game when I'm over. Last time we were over we saw a grown man in a ski mask telling two young lads he was chasing away from the ground 'if I see yous here again I'll break your f*ckin legs'. Which was... different. Managed to miss both goals as we turned up late due to enjoying the guinness too much, and left early to get more guinness. Derry is great.

This seems very unlikely. Given relative size of the 2 countries and the dominance of GAA, I can’t see how teams with a couple of thousand watching are near standard of Stoke, Huddersfield etc. Championship is a pretty high standard, even in bottom half. UEFA coefficient is pretty low.

Derry maintain their title push with a 3-0 win over Finn Harps in the North-West Derby, but Shamrock Rovers can regain their five-point lead if they beat Shels on Sunday. St Pat's last gasp victory away to Dundalk reduces the gap to third to a mere point, while Drogheda defeated Bohs in a rather meaningless encounter, and Sligo won 2-0 against UCD to leave the latter still bottom on GD.
Cork finally wrapped up both the First Division title and promotion through a scoreless draw with Wexford, after Galway slumped to a 2-1 defeat at home to Athlone. Waterford consolidated second after a Munster derby triumph against Treaty United, though the Limerick side have the consolation of securing the final playoff berth. Longford defeated Cobh, but both clubs can move no further in their remaining two games.

Dramatic match in Tallaght this evening - Shelbourne dominated the first half, and deservedly led 2-1 at the break, Rovers equalised in the 83rd minute before the ref signalled four minutes of injury time. Various delays meant that crept into the 95th minute, in which the probable Player of the Season, Rory Gaffney, struck the winner for the champions, who thus regain a five-point lead at the top of the table.

How would a group of English be welcomed at a match over there? One of our mates is a big Mayo man when it comes to that mad game where you get points for the ball going over the bar, they must pley the real game somewhere round there.

You'd be more than welcome, I'm sure - that Sam North guy who does football touring videos on YouTube went around various Dublin LoI grounds recently and got a great reception.
