Probably a nil thread, but will add occasional updates. The league is a two-division system of 19 teams (more anon), and due to the infrastructural and financial requirements of the FAI licensing system, there's no integrated pyramid connecting the national leagues with the junior and intermediate counterparts.
Shamrock Rovers, currently in the Europa Conference League, are going for their third successive title, and 20th in all, but their European exertions have opened the door to Derry City. At the bottom, it appears either Finn Harps (Donegal) or UCD will be automatically relegated, with the other entering a playoff.
Premier Division Table:
Shamrock Rovers 29 18 6 5 60
Derry City 30 16 10 4 58
Dundalk 30 14 11 5 53
St Patrick's Athletic 29 15 6 8 51
Sligo Rovers 30 11 8 11 41
Bohemians 29 9 9 11 36
Shelbourne 29 9 7 13 34
Drogheda United 30 7 10 13 31
UCD 29 4 7 18 19
Finn Harps 29 4 6 19 18
In the First Division, Cork City are on the brink of promotion, but are going through an indifferent patch of form, Galway have a faint chance of catching them, and Waterford have experienced a resurgence since their recent takeover by Fleetwood's Andy Pilley. At the start of the season, the merger of Cabinteely and Bray Wanderers left the division with an unwieldy nine teams, with Kerry FC, who were only involved at underage level until now, the only candidates to fill the vacancy for 2023, should they fulfil the criteria outlined at the beginning.
First Division Table:
Cork City 28 19 7 2 64
Galway United 27 16 6 4 54
Waterford FC 27 15 4 8 49
Longford Town 27 13 7 7 46
Treaty United (Limerick) 28 11 9 8 42
Wexford FC 28 8 9 11 33
Bray Wanderers 28 6 9 13 27
Athlone Town 27 4 2 21 14
Cobh Ramblers 28 3 5 20 14
