Kerry's second home game also sells out, eight days before KO, with the club already intending to expand capacity to 1,800. It's a common theme across the League, with Bohemians, Derry, Drogheda and St Pats all playing to full houses tomorrow, with the concentration of Government funding towards GAA and rugby stadia the main obstacle to development plans.

It's been a tough return to the top flight for Cork City, as they were comfortably beaten 2-0 at The Brandywell by Derry City, whose title challenge looks in fine fettle. The champions, however are struggling, as Shamrock Rovers were held to their second straight draw, by Drogheda United, and received two red cards. Bohemians top the table thanks to a 2-1 win over Dundalk, St Pats defeated Shelbourne 1-0, and Sligo followed up their draw with the title-holders with a surprisingly topsy-turvy 3-2 success against UCD.
In the First Division, Okwute, as mentioned in the loans thread, had a much-improved personal game, but Finn Harps were shocked 3-1 by Athlone Town, unrecognisable from the side who propped up the League last season. Bray had a comfortable win by the same scoreline against Kerry, whose home game against Treaty next week now takes on extra importance, Longford secured an excellent 1-1 draw away to Waterford, Galway's 1-0 win over Treaty was reportedly more comprehensive than the scoreline suggests, and Wexford's 2-1 defeat away to Cobh sees them prop up the table, but only on alphabetical order from The Kingdom.

Shamrock Rovers suddenly find themselves 9th in the Premier Division, after Derry City won 2-1 against their title rivals at The Brandywell to take the helm in the title race, and move five points clear of the current champions. There was some minor crowd trouble in Tolka Park, as Bohemians fans managed to secure tickets for the home end, but all to no avail, as Shelbourne ultimately won the Dublin derby 1-0. St Pats, rather inexplicably, fell to a 5-0 defeat away to Dundalk, who move to mid-table, Cork City get off the mark with a 4-0 success against bottom side UCD, while Drogheda also picked up their first win against Sligo.
In the First Division, Kerry picked up their first-ever point, holding out for a 1-1 draw against Treaty United after going down to 10 men, Daniel Okwute was withdrawn for Finn Harps as they achieved the same result against Bray, Wexford got their first win (3-0) against surprise outfit Athlone, while the big clash of the division saw Waterford lose 1-0 at home to Galway, who now move 5 points clear of their promotion rivals, after being accused of spying on a training session earlier in the week.
Today, the Women's Premier Division begins, with newly-formed Shamrock Rovers the firm favourites after seemingly buying up half the league for their squad, but Shelbourne, Wexford and Athlone will also all be strong contenders.

The Premier Division played a double round this week, as part of plans to frontload the season for clubs playing in Europe, but Shamrock Rovers remain officially in crisis mode, scrambling from 4-2 down at home to Cork to rescue a 4-4 draw, remaining 9th with 3 points from 12. Derry continue to lead the way, galloping to a 4-0 win against UCD, whose attendance of 406 will surely be an unwanted seasonal record, while Bohs lead the chase, after their 3-1 success against Drogheda. St Pats followed Friday's humiliation with a 2-1 away defeat to Sligo, while Damien Duff's Shelbourne tenure remains indistinguished, as they lost by a similar score to Dundalk.

A quiet evening in the Premier Division, with scoreless draws between Shelbourne and Shamrock Rovers, and Derry at home to Dundalk. Bohemians entered the title race with a 2-0 win away to St Pats, while Drogheda were also victorious by 1-0 away to UCD.
Galway underlined their promotion credentials, with a 9-1 home hammering of Kerry, Waterford won 1-0 away to Athlone, Cobh Ramblers had a comfortable 3-0 Munster derby success at Treaty United, while there were scoreless stalemates between Longford and Bray, and Finn Harps against Wexford.

Good Lord Kerry, what happened? Were they down to 5 men or something?

Basically, Galway are a fully professional club who are already capable of surviving in the Premier Division should they be promoted, but fair to see tactical naivety by Kerry played into their hands. Interestingly, their next opponents, Wexford, are the only new club since 1985 to have survived longer than a decade in the League, and have focused on bringing through local players, so even if this season looks to be a struggle, the project will be largely judged in the long-term.

Rather surprisingly, Shamrock Rovers record going into the international break reads W0 D5 L1, after being held 2-2 by St Pats in Tallaght, with Jack Byrne scoring one of the goals of the season for the home side. Derry were held 1-1 by fellow Northwesterners Sligo, Cork crashed to a 2-0 defeat at home to Damien Duff's Shelbourne, UCD surprisingly took the lead at home to table-toppers Bohemians, before losing 2-1, and Dundalk won a hotly-contested Louth derby 1-0 against Drogheda.
In the First Division, Galway maintained their 100% record, winning 2-0 away to Cobh, Athlone were held 2-2 by Treaty United, for whom Enda Curran scored twice, while Kerry were denied two penalties for handball in a 2-1 defeat away to Wexford, though Leo Gaxha continues his fine personal form, with two goals and two assists in five games.

Well, sounds like Kerry bounces back from the drubbing they took. Did they have 2 shouts for a handball and neither was given? Cheers, Jeff

Thankfully, nothing but full attendances and genuine support at the ground itself - just the usual case of anonymous keyboard warriors, but important to make a statement from the onset, particularly when many of your squad members are from minority backgrounds, and you accordingly want to ensure they're well represented among the fanbase.
