Anybody remember why we played in our away kit in that 5 - 1 thrashing of Alty?

Anybody remember why we played in our away kit in that 5 - 1 thrashing of Alty? It was for a homeless charity wasn’t it?

Fewer people buy newspapers these days, but if you do, you’ll know they’re a little bit thicker at the weekend – and that’s just Boris Johnson’s column in the Daily Mail, arf arf! With Saturday specials and Sunday supplements, there’s more to get your teeth into, and that’s what I like to do with The Scarf My Father Wore if I can (in an online sense, obviously). I try to upload at least one article Monday to Friday for you to read on the train in the morning, or dare I say it, when you’re on the toilet during your dinner hour. But at the weekend, when you’ve probably got more time on your hands, I like sticking a little bit extra in your inbox, to enjoy with your brew or your bacon butty. As it’s a Sunday, I thought I’d share two of our 2023-24 previews with you this morning, so here’s Salford fan Martin Cooper – host of Dirty Old Podcast – and Harrogate regular Oscar Taylor for your reading pleasure. thescarfmyfatherwore.substack.com/p/doncaster-wimbledon-colchester-crewe-2de

I try to upload at least one article Monday to Friday for you to read on the train in the morning, or dare I say it, when you’re on the toilet during your dinner hour. Never go to the toilet during your dinner break...always go when you're getting paid. Also, nothing beats a good poo during overtime, when you're getting paid time and a half, to curl one out.

Rio Doherty and Dave Philbin join us today for a look back at County’s 3-2 victory at Chester on Tuesday night – our final pre-season away game before the forthcoming trio of tests against Championship opposition at Edgeley Park. thescarfmyfatherwore.substack.com/p/chester-2-county-3

It’s back to Edgeley Park today, 63 days on from that fantastic afternoon against Salford in the play-offs. We’ve got Ian Brown, Jonathan Baker and Andrew Barlow on match preview duty, along with Paul Thompson, making his debut on these pages on behalf of the Co-op. We might need to keep an eye on him if his score prediction is anything to go by… thescarfmyfatherwore.substack.com/p/county-v-huddersfield

Gaz from Chips for a Quid joins us today ahead of another title race between County and Wrexham if the bookies are to be believed. With a home game against Wrexham at the end of September before a trip to North Wales for our final away game of the season, even the fixtures have a similar feel to 2021-22. thescarfmyfatherwore.substack.com/p/doncaster-wimbledon-colchester-crewe-f7a

Well, whether it was Neil Warnock insisting his 74-year-old bladder wouldn’t hold out for 120 minutes on Saturday, or Huddersfield’s coach driver kicking off about having to stay in Stockport for an extra half hour, it’s probably a good job we didn’t proceed with the original plan to play for two hours at the weekend as the Terriers might have ended up with five or six. Hannah Brown and Richard Kosmala reflect on Saturday’s friendly for us today – County’s first defeat of the summer. thescarfmyfatherwore.substack.com/p/county-0-huddersfield-4

“A win is a win and we will be up there by October. Of greater concern was The Armoury running out of Dizzy post match. Unheard of and shocking.” Bob Carey has the honour of reporting on County’s first win of the campaign. thescarfmyfatherwore.substack.com/p/county-1-barrow-0

We’ve got an amazing fanbase, we really have. Yeah, there’s the odd muppet who chucks a flare onto the pitch from time to time, and the odd deviant who scrans egg butties on the Fingerpost Flyer, but generally speaking we’re a good bunch. Enter Keith Mills, a County fan who’s spent the last couple of decades making a huge improvement to the lives of underprivileged children in Uganda. Keith chats to us about the charity today, and there’s also a link to support their latest project. Please chuck a few quid into the pot if you can. thescarfmyfatherwore.substack.com/p/the-county-fan-doing-fantastic-work
