“Someone needs to burn this place to the ground. I told myself I would never come back.” One of my favourite lines from The Hangover Part III. Delivered by Ed Helms (who plays Stu) as the gang roll into Las Vegas on the hunt for Leslie Chow. I watched the film again this week and I imagined County fans saying that particular line in exactly the same tone as they pulled away from Field Mill on Saturday, a ground we now haven’t won at in the league for 40 years. Sam Binch from Mansfield Musings gives us the Stags’ view, with Edward Keane drawing the short straw to relieve the away end experience. thescarfmyfatherwore.substack.com/p/mansfield-3-county-2

How did you find the 72nd best away day in the country yesterday, County fans? “Comfy seats, shit location” seems to be the general consensus amongst the 1,064 travelling Hatters. A more detailed away day analysis has been published by BetVictor this week, looking at everything from atmosphere and infrastructure to food and location. They’ve ranked all 92 clubs, which I thought I’d have a bit of a look at for you today. thescarfmyfatherwore.substack.com/p/better-than-blackpool-worse-than

Perhaps County v Wrexham isn’t a proper rivalry after all, as many have said, and dare I say it, there may even be a certain level of mutual respect between the two clubs. Two traditional Football League clubs, both with a decent hardcore fanbase, both suffering over a decade in non-league, both now looking forward to a much brighter future under new ownership. Gaz from Chips for a Quid wrote a quality article on the matter the other day and he joins us today to reflect on a scoreline nobody in football saw coming, along with Isaac Stronge from The Stopfordian Sport. thescarfmyfatherwore.substack.com/p/county-5-wrexham-0

Maurice Perkins – also known as Moz, Polly or Mo, depending on where you know him from – was born in 1957, a time when communities were still recovering from the impact of the second world war. His parents were from simple backgrounds but created a family with three young boys, built on love, key principles, and values. Elders on both sides of his family served in the military, either during the war or in national service afterwards, and Moz always listened to many of their tales, before eventually joining the forces himself. Moz has previously written a trilogy of books reflecting on his life in the Royal Navy, as well as three fictional thrillers: Quest, Revenge, and his most recent tale, The Accidental Assassin, a dark comedy thriller that will have you laughing and cringing in equal measures as it races towards its final climax. This latest book features a misguided hapless loser with questionable morals, who comes to the attention of a ruthless serial killer on a murder spree. Hunting them is an aging detective nearing the end of his career, an investigative journalist chasing a payday and a young ambitious uniformed officer. The Accidental Assassin is mainly based in Stockport, and we’ve got an exclusive extract for you to enjoy today, with a chapter based on a pre-match police operation ahead of a County home game with Bradford. thescarfmyfatherwore.substack.com/p/the-accidental-assassin

County turning Paul Mullin down, Mark Stott buying Macc Town, and Hugh Jackman being sent a load of County shirts! There’s some interesting snippets in this exclusive extract from Tinseltown. A big thank you to the Daily Mail’s Ian Herbert. thescarfmyfatherwore.substack.com/p/tinseltown

It’s not guaranteed, but a victory in east Lancashire this afternoon would almost certainly put County in the play-off places by 5pm, above our old friends Crewe or Wrexham, or even possibly both of them. Technically, we could end the day in the automatic promotion places, but that’s a pretty unlikely scenario. Let’s just take it one step at a time, eh. Ian Brown, Paul Thompson and Jonathan Baker are all backing Dave Challinor’s men to make it four wins on the trot later today. With Stanley losing three of their four league games this month, and County on a high after the rout of Wrexham last week, I reckon an away win looks a decent bet this afternoon. thescarfmyfatherwore.substack.com/p/accrington-v-county

I’ve got a bit of a long read to share with you today, which is essentially what Substack was set up for, to share writing within a like-minded community. I’d like to say a huge thank you to Harry, Chris and James for helping me produce today’s article, which will hopefully help anyone who’s struggling with mental health issues at the moment. I’ll be writing a series of features throughout this journey, and I’ll share the experiences of other County fans who recently got in touch with me as well. thescarfmyfatherwore.substack.com/p/the-streets-of-stockport
