Don’t shoot the statistic messenger, but County have never failed to hit the back of the net when they’ve played at Wetherby Road. That’s the exact sub-heading I used when the Hatters headed to Harrogate for a 10th time back in February. Let’s hope it does the job on visit number 11 this afternoon. Ian Brown, Jonathan Baker and Paul Thompson all think Dave Challinor’s men will be flashing up on Soccer Saturday later today anyway. thescarfmyfatherwore.substack.com/p/harrogate-v-county-85f

Back in February, Britton Barthold wrote a cracking piece for the website, explaining how an American from Chicago fell in love with County. At the time he told me he was hoping to make the journey across the pond in the not-too-distant future to experience his first taste of Edgeley Park, and he managed to do just that for the Doncaster game at the start of this month. Britton’s back with us today to share the tale of his first ever trip to SK3. thescarfmyfatherwore.substack.com/p/from-chicago-to-edgeley

They say you’re there to be shot at once you’re top of the league, and four other clubs – Notts County, Mansfield, Crewe and Wrexham – could be in pole position in League Two by 5pm today. However, unless Notts County win by nine goals at Gillingham, which I’d say is fairly unlikely, all we need is a point to stay in first place. With the Mariners down in 20th, I’m sure every football fan across the country is predicting a home win at Edgeley Park this afternoon, but there is the small matter of the recent Grimsby curse to overcome, having picked up just one point from our last five league meetings. Our County correspondents don’t seem to be worried, though, with Ian Brown, Nick Lee and Jonathan Baker all backing the Hatters to pick up three points, and they’ve generally been spot on with their recent predictions. thescarfmyfatherwore.substack.com/p/county-v-grimsby

It’s Sunday. A day when newspapers and magazines tend to share long read features with their readers. I’m excited to be doing the same this morning, as I share the first instalment of ‘The Streets of Stockport’ – a new series chronicling my walk along every single street in the town, whilst raising money for Mentell. thescarfmyfatherwore.substack.com/p/the-streets-of-stockport-day-1

Every single street in Stockport?
I wish you the best of luck and will send a donation but Christ there’s a lot of streets in Stockport, have you gone any calculations into how long that will take?

A point would have kept County top of the league on goal difference, and it looked like we might have to settle for that with Grimsby coming back from 2-0 down on Saturday, but Louie Barry’s late winner clinched an eighth consecutive victory in League Two (nine in all competitions), setting us up nicely for tomorrow’s trip to third placed Crewe. John K Bilsbury takes a look back at Saturday’s victory, our first league success against Grimsby since August 2012. thescarfmyfatherwore.substack.com/p/county-3-grimsby-2

County make the short trip across Cheshire in search of a tenth consecutive victory in all competitions tonight, although I think we’re all agreed this is by far the toughest test this month. Crewe haven’t lost at home in the league for over eight months, although the last time they did, it was on a Tuesday night against the League Two leaders… Ian Brown, Jonathan Baker and Andrew Barlow join us today ahead of our 79th trip to the town of the trains. thescarfmyfatherwore.substack.com/p/crewe-v-county-ce9

Cathartic. That’s how I’m feeling today, after our first victory at Gresty Road since the day we were relegated to the Conference. It might not be the case for the 1,041 Hatters in the away end last night who weren’t at Crewe on the day our Football League status was taken away. But for many of the 1,100 County fans who did see the final nail drilled into our coffin on 30 April 2011, I know how special last night was. Stuart Price from The Railwaymen Podcast and Sandy McGregor from a bonkers away end reflect on the night County won a tenth consecutive game for the third time. thescarfmyfatherwore.substack.com/p/crewe-0-county-2

Today we’re joined by Tranmere fan Ethan Hoijord who doesn’t think his Rovers side will stand in the way of County making history this weekend by winning an 11th consecutive match for the first time. Cue Connor Jennings scoring a last-minute winner, or Ben Hinchliffe punching the ball into his own net. Although with Tranmere’s away form this season reading L L L L L L L, surely we’re allowed to be fairly optimistic. thescarfmyfatherwore.substack.com/p/weve-not-won-away-since-february

Simon Lloyd is a lifelong Manchester United supporter who attended countless United games alongside his late father. More recently, he has been able to return to Old Trafford with his young son, Ethan. Simon has worked as a feature writer since 2015, covering a range of issues across football. United With Dad is his first book and is inspired by a widely shared article he wrote for JOE Media shortly after his father’s death in 2019. United With Dad is an emotional tale of football fandom and fatherhood. Detailing his father’s agonising final months of life, Simon Lloyd draws on his and his father's memories of their shared love – Manchester United – attempting to make sense of why, at such a bleak time, a bond with a football club should matter so much. My thanks to Simon for allowing me to share an exclusive extract from his book with you today. It’s obviously United-related, but I’m sure County supporters will resonate with Simon’s words, along with lots of other football fans who read The Scarf My Father Wore on a daily basis. thescarfmyfatherwore.substack.com/p/united-with-dad

It’s a Saturday that could see history made at Edgeley Park, with Stockport County winning an eleventh consecutive game for the first time. Chesterfield prevented us from doing it the first time around, before Mullin & Co did the same at the Racecourse. Will a side that’s lost all seven of their away games in League Two this season throw a spanner in the works this afternoon, or will it be third time lucky? One of my mates has gone for a 7-0 County win this morning. Ian Brown has been a little more conservative with a 3-0. He’s the only one on duty for us this weekend, but don’t worry, we’ll be back to full strength for Worksop in the FA Cup next Saturday. For those readers who enjoy the longer pieces we publish on The Scarf My Father Wore, I’ll have part two of ‘The Streets of Stockport’ with you tomorrow, as I take you down the other side of the A6. thescarfmyfatherwore.substack.com/p/county-v-tranmere-369
