Based on recommendations here, made my first visit to Mekong Cat tonight, preceded by beer in The Cracked Actor and followed by beer in The Bakers Vaults. Great food and beer, only gripe being the cold draught as folk came in and out of the restaurant. Oh, and what a ridiculous faff with buying train tickets, something I rarely do (Crewe away excepted). Only going from Cheadle Hulme and back. Online is cheaper, but how do I know which train I'll be catching home. So buy singles but app doesn't work at 11pm (after several beers!). So end up using a machine at the station where ticket is £1.30 cheaper than the ticket office price. It's a 4 minute journey for gods sake. World's gone mad! We had that problem too as we went on very cold night, it shouldn't be a problem as the weather improves but does need sorting out before next winter. When I get the train from Middlewood to Stockport I buy a return but never stick to the time I booked, on the rare occasions we've had a hector he never bothers.

I called them out earlier in the thread, Cheadle is a lot more personal than the place in Manchester. The manager at Cheadle is a great guy and always welcoming. That's me dreaming of a dosa all day! Is the one in town down by Home? Went in there a few years ago and thought it was bang average at best. Crap service, most dishes lacking any flavour or excitement. Best curries have ever had have been in Bradford. Nothing in Manchester have ever come close. Aye. I just wouldn't go for a curry in manchester ever. I do the Rice Bowl every time, which is fantastic. And I agree on Bradford. I've had some fantastic curries there over the years. I'm lucky enough though to have a takeaway in Bamford called Bamford Balti Express - best curries I've ever tasted in my life. I'm very lucky to have it on me doorstep...very unlucky in that I've had to cut back for reasons of expense and health.

Tried the White Swan at Fence the other week. Never done a Michelin star place before. Was worth the drive. One of the best meals I’ve ever had. Not bad value for money either - £80 for the 5 courses. Yep. Took a client there (from Burnley) some time back. Absolutely superb. Bit out in the sticks but if anyone ever fancies a quite beautiful meal, and cracking ale, whilst watching steam and diesel trains pass then jump on the tram system and come over and give The Trackside at Bury (on the East Lancashire Railway) a try. It's absolutely fantastic. Even has a large covered area outside on the platform which have heaters for when it's slightly parky. Was sat yesterday on some 5% ale, having eaten my haddock and chips for din dins. Watching them starting up an old BR shunter. Easily entertained me.

I've been told the tapas place in the Glass Spider has closed and they're moving to a larger place, does anyone know where they're going? We were planning to visit in the next couple of weeks.

Dr Feelgood in the marketplace has shut today, seems rather sudden and a real shame, it was cracking in there.

Same here, it was a great bar, there’s a comment about whinging neighbours on the post but whether that’s a throwaway comment or not I don’t know, that lad has played a big part in the revitalisation of the pub scene in Stockport.

Just read that so that leaves him with The Cracked Actor and Glitch I can't see Glitch lasting much longer either, sadly.

I’ve been in a couple of times and it’s not great really so yeah I’d probably agree, seems odd that three days ago he was advertising tickets for an event in May and then now he’s shut those two bars right before a bank holiday and the one comment he’s actually replied to on instagram is a weird one too, either way it’s two of my regular places gone in one hit.

That the new game bar place? I thought Stockport was doing well now? I get the picture it's more a weekend place since Covid, as been on the market pre-Tuesday night games and probably 70% of pubs bars are closed until Thurs.
