That the new game bar place? I thought Stockport was doing well now? I get the picture it's more a weekend place since Covid, as been on the market pre-Tuesday night games and probably 70% of pubs bars are closed until Thurs. Bit different but Sale is struggling too. Had a fortune spent on it over the past couple of years, now got some of the best restaurants in the whole of Manchester but in the past fortnight an independent bar, coffee shop and the main food hall (same as the one at Stretford) have all closed. The owner of Food Halls posted on Instagram the monthly utilities were £18k - what chance have they got in the face of that? It was this kind of vibe. Three independent food traders who'd change every fortnight, decent beers and coffees and a little shop. It had gone downhill over the past six months, the traders were lazy choices and the shop went to shit, but suspect they couldn't get smaller traders in because of the costs. Still a massive shame. Probably get a Nando's in there now.

Still very much weekend centric but the shift will come with more tenants once the apartment comes, that's long term, and with warmer weather just around the corner more and more people will venture out into the town centre in day times.

Notion was immense the other night, what a place. There's a magic in there late on. Even better when Sam Minihan strolls in at 3am.

I hope you're right, I saw a pub owner on TV saying that things are tougher now than during covid, the rise in costs are crippling them, even Spoons are closing something like 35 pubs.

Couldn’t agree more, it’s been tough and having to close our restaurant in January was the hardest decision I’ve ever had to make but I knew it was one that was needed to avoid the other businesses in the group having to take the flack and cause job losses. You’ve gotta be savvy now and box clever, play to your strengths and fully know what your market is, your product is and you need to be mentally strong.

Of course, briefly forgot about the stupid costs currently under this c*nt of government! Seen a bunch of places in Manchester that would normally have been doing well have gone too.

I knew it was busy when the doorman said “Andy, I can’t even let you in yet it’s at capacity” 😂 Sammy loved it, last one out the door I heard 😂😂

I can't see Glitch lasting much longer either, sadly. I’ve been in a couple of times and it’s not great really so yeah I’d probably agree, seems odd that three days ago he was advertising tickets for an event in May and then now he’s shut those two bars right before a bank holiday and the one comment he’s actually replied to on instagram is a weird one too, either way it’s two of my regular places gone in one hit. Believe a lot of Glitch has been ripped out today 😔

Anyone got a recommendation for somewhere in Stockport or not too far into the Peak or Cheshire that would have a private room for 15-20 for a family meal?

If you want a pub type experience in a nice setting, decent food (little on the top heavy side price wise) and great range of drinks Sutton Hall (Macclesfield) or Bulls Head (Prestbury) should be able to sort you. I believe Prime Cut, Macclesfield also has a private dining area.

Red Lion in High Lane or something a bit different where you can all eat different things the Food Hall on the market, also Miller and Carter in Heaton Chapel.

For anyone interested, Ornella’s Kitchen in Denton re-opens on Wednesday 19 April; Ornella - a Sicilian lady - has taken a month off to have a baby! Very highly recommended for brunch, lunch, or dinner; a very special place. Booking pretty much essential which tells its own story, we’re booked in for Friday.

Is it a case of there are too many establishments about now doing food with so more choice than it used to be. Then like everything some will be doing better thailln others where price as well as quality comes into the equasion more than it might have done a few years back. Know now you have to search down your bill to see if the service charge has been included especially if you do not agree with that being on a bill prefering to tip the waiter or not depending on the whole experiance you had.
