Horsfall was fouled in every other game of football I’ve ever seen for their goal. How do Sky think that having Meriappas best mate on commentary was a good idea. His Horsfall comments were ridiculous. I think that Hippo is a quality player but he was well off it tonight. He owes us a performance next Saturday that isn’t hesitant and half hearted. Byrne at left side caused big problems for us first half only solved by Hussey dropping back and Byrne a lot more comfortable second half. We will go through if we play on front foot from first whistle with crowd behind us. Salford are weak under big pressure. If Horsfall fouled Hartlepool's keeper last week then Smith's fould on him was far worse, anyway we're 1 down with 90 to go in front of a partisan home crowd, we're going to do it. Hopefully EP will be a bit livelier than it has been for the last few games.

We haven't adapted to being without Wooton (besides the Orient game). If we're going to just lump it up to Stretton then I may aswell play upfront. Wouldn't mind seeing a return to the box midfield. It served us well towards the end of last season, helps control the midfield more and keep it on the deck. Can understand why its difficult to change tactics when Wootton had played every single game before his injury. He was one player that i think all of us expected to be fit the next game and play the same even after a battering. We can all be wise after the event and say a Wootton type player should have been signed in january just in case. A case really no one expected to happen. 🙄🤯

I was offered a ticket in the home end yesterday but turned it down because my wife wanted to watch the game and won't go to the pub alone, I saw a couple of familiar faces in the Salford sections on TV, did everything pass off peacefully.

Is Pye now back with us permanently? (as in he won't get to play at Wembley with Gateshead?) Feel for him if that's the case. Possibly its a case of his loan period being up and we recalled him to warm the bench. If so County do not come out of this looking good as it could be the one and only chance the lad has to play at wembley as we could have extended his loan like we did with barclay. He was our only fit defender. Had someone got injured yesterday then we should play an academy player instead of our own player? Not how it works. Unfortunate or not

Slept on it and I’m more sanguine about things than last night. I’m still pissed off with the performance but the benefit is it still being 1-0.
I railed against using injuries as an excuse because it makes us sound weak. While I think injuries explain the result, they don’t explain the poor performances out on the pitch. The execution wasn’t good.
That’s an unfortunate combination. Some of your best players out and the best of the rest all collectively having an off day. In that sense I’m glad it is 1-0 because we’re still really in the tie, but we’ll all be on one hell of a come-down if we go out in this fashion.
We need to be hell for leather next week, relentless at EP and have some different ideas up front. Have a go and if we go out, so be it. I’d rather that than what we appeared to do last night in trying to make the game tight.
We’ll be fine because if we don’t go up - and it looks more likely not to happen than it does now - we will nail this division next season. But to do that we need to learn to play with a Plan B in mind. We’ve known Wootton is going to be out for weeks and seemingly didn’t have an answer, which is disappointing.

Know he is not a popular choice but at least he has been involved in the side unlike pye has been.

Hopefully EP will be a bit livelier than it has been for the last few games. We have played very boring safety first/risk averse football, and there hasn’t really felt like there had been any jeopardy (Although that Jonathon Vaughan interview should awaken it, you can’t keep losing £5m a year and stagnate!) Saturday will force us to take risks and there is a real sense of jeopardy, it should be a belter in terms of atmosphere ⚽️💙

It will only be lively on Saturday if you let the people who create an atmosphere congregate together.
Because of the sell outs in the last few games the UT have been locked out by ST holders/fastest finger first. Which is fine per se and everybody has a right to be there.
I've sat in the lower tiers, amongst those who create atmosphere at the away games/used to at home in the dark old days.
I think it would be a reasonable oversight to forget to check tickets and get as many up there as possible next week.

Having your 3 main goal scorers out is not an excuse as having your 3 best defenders out and not keeping a clean sheet would also be a legitimate excuse. We do need to go hell for leather next week and give it a go. If they do pick us off on the break then so be it and that would be far better than going out with a whimper in a goaless bore.

What will be more annoying is if we do play a risky game and come out on top then why was it not played earlier at EP where we could have gone up automatically instead of dropping all those points in drawn games.

Not sure if it’s been mentioned but our fans were silent last night. Couldn’t hear them at all. And that was from someone stood 30 yards away.

Just one goal down and now at EP for the second leg-- so not a disaster. I agree that having Wotton,Collar and Madden out is an untimely problem, given they are our top goal scorers. However, surely the recruitment policy should have been designed to give us a squad capable of coping and competing successfully in such eventualities. It is then down to the manager to 1) set the team out and develop tactics to compete with what is available 2) to motivate & inspire the players to give 110% on the day. If we only have Tanto and Stretton then organise to play to their strengths with a fast fluid running game. Which means organising the midfield and the wing backs to play differently, than if we have a big contact man like Karl Wotton to aim for or play off. If the squad cannot provide this then the investment in a big squad was ill-judged. If we have the squad resources but we end up playing in the same way --- then the manager is at fault lacking flexibility and the capacity to improvise and adapt to the situation he is faced with.

Yes. Gateshead fans are not happy. I can see why we've done it - not sure it was necessary the right thing to do though. It is for the club, and that’s who he is contracted to. He might get chance to play at Wembley for us against Bradford. That would be a far bigger occasion than the Trophy final.

There was one flashpoint just before half time where it got a bit giddy and the police stepped in but nothing major. A bit of windmilling but most Salford retreated pretty quickly. We were stood in the same spot as were for the league game, in the corner at the opposite end of the terrace from the County allocation last night. It was nowhere near full and I’d say probably 70% County, 20% neutral/United and then a handful of Salford supporters but nobody particularly arsed at all. More central behind the goal were giddy Salford kids giving it out from behind the safety of the segregation who couldn’t run quick enough when a few County did go for them.

What happens when you get 500 tickets going to people who are happy to sit outside from 3am. With all respect to them as I’m not saying they are any less of a fan in any way but it was always going to be the way. The atmosphere at EP in the sell outs has been horrendous because you struggle to get the ones who do make an atmosphere together. Never been in favour of an “atmosphere” area but it might need some thought if this carries on next season.
