Spring continues to be a bird bonanza, in gods own, "champions" town. Yellow Wagtails and Song Thrushes battling it out for ownership of the highest branch of the apple tree in the back garden. Buzzards galore riding the thermals, more Jackdaws than you can wave a very big stick at. Kestrels and Sparrowhawks knocking about. Ducks steaming over at high speed and squadrons of Geese. More Blackbirds than I have seen in many a year. Not sure what that was, a bit ago, some kind of finch. Parakeets, wrens, tits, wood pidgeons, collared doves. A lazy Heron, shouting at "Frank" and many other winged characters. Lovely stuff, who needs Netflix with this on your doorstep. If we act now and foster alliances among these birds, they could provide us with the air superiority that will turn the tide in our struggle against the Newt and his minions

Usually up when they all start singing and living by a river in a semi rural spot its busy with them. Put out food and hair of the dog after i groomed him that quickly goes for nesting. My problem is however much i try i cannot distinguish many birds from others apart from the common species. Not the end of the world as all birds matter.

Finished work yesterday & was walking down the side of the Goyt mill when I kept hearing a quack coming from above. There was a duck sat on a window ledge on the 5th floor. I know they can fly but thought it was unusual to see a duck perched that high up when in close vicinity to the canal 🤷♂️

Read about a chap in Manchester flats where a mallard nested on his balcony and they had to lower the ducklings down on a bucket so they could follow mum to the pond.( or possibly Salford Quays flats?)

I remember that- the story featured on BBC North West Tonight News, and I think it was Salford Quays way. Properly heartwarming stuff, among the usual parade of depressing bulletins often featured on there.

I don't know why Timbers, but the phrase 'Hair of the Dog' jumped out at me there and I thought for a tiny second you might have forsaken your teetotalness in honour of our triumphant season! Sure in fact you're joyously celebrating without a drop passing the lips!

Never been a person who goes OTT about anything or reaches the depth of dispair either and if i won the lottery i,d just smile and say a quick thanks when presented with the cheque.

A beautiful day here today and a real migrant fest. Sat on the balcony watching linnet, male pied flycatcher, chiffchaff, male and female redstart just passing through the garden. And the local raven and hoodie robbing eggs from the oystercatcher and curlew nests in the fields. Also had displaying snipe which was fascinating to listen to them "drumming".

Had a good day as well. The regular cuckoo was back on one of the tree laden moors near me. Never felt the same at this time of year going up there without its call.
