I can confirm that our esteemed guest's choice of Edgeley Roundabout Island Disc is reliably esoteric. Prog Rock? Possibly not, this time... I like to think I have a fairly catholic taste in music but it doesn't stretch to Prog or Chamber Music. My dislike of Prog Rock stems from my school days. At Bramhall in the 1970s we weren't allowed to stay in the classrooms at lunchtime unless we were involved in a club of some sort, so when three of my classmates set up a Prog Rock Club I decided to go along as it was a chance to avoid the great outdoors. I think it took all of twenty minutes to decide that mooching about aimlessly in the cold didn't seem too bad. At the other end of the scale, my other half sometimes puts Classic FM on in the afternoons, it's the greatest aid to productivity on my garden railway yet invented.

On the Awayday Show this morning we chatted statues (and statuesque Wrexham defenders..) with our Fantastic County Fan Guest jkb9b, basked in the memories of a certain milk advert featuring this afternoon's opposition (and Ian Rush), and spun an eclectic mix of tracks including contributions from Pulp, The Searchers, John Shuttleworth... and the official favourite Stanley of the County Nation- Stan Laurel. Still time to catch up before kick-off (or whenever)- right here: AwayDay Show- To Accy, and Baccy

On the AwayDay Show this morning we chatted missed open goals and macaroni pies with Fantastic County Fan Guest Frankie (AKA Young Geordie Hatter)... handed an overdue playlist debut to the Jesus and Mary Chain... featured The Wedding Present an our Host Town Heroes (because they're from Leeds which is near enough)... and revealed the best spot in Harrogate to grab a pre-match chicken chow mein (but dress up if you do; it's a bit posh in those parts). Still tme to catch up- right here: AwayDay Show- Harrogate

One of these days I need to dedicate a song to the people of Stafford; the Show seems to broadcast to them on a regular basis (albeit from the inside of a heavily-glazed set of coach windows).

On the AwayDay Show this morning we talked the unwritten rules of footballers' training-ground nicknames, the wintertime joys of floodlights on full beam at 3PM, the conundrum of Swindon's magic roundabouts... and heard from Fantastic Home Fan Guest Keith, giving us the lowdown on the tribulations at the County Ground. along with a cracking Mary Wallopers track as his desert island choice. Still time to get your fill of it before kick-off (or indeed after the final whistle...)- right here: AwayDay Show- Swindon

With apologies for the late notice everyone... I'm afraid there will be an unavoidable break in AwayDay Show transmission tomorrow morning, as I've got a delegation of Geordie family coming down to visit, and the logistics have just not made it possible for me to broadcast to the County Nation in advance of tomorrow's kick-off.
The Show will be back for the Aldershot weekend (we'll go live on the Saturday morning in advance of the Sunday fixture)... and then again the very following week for a Seaside Special!
See you there hopefully and in the meantime- Happy Friday to all!

On yesterday morning's AwayDay Show, we played tribute to the fierce genius of Shane McGowan, played a track by the Vaselines that made Ayra the Cat blush, and revealed the little-known (or as it turned out, pretty well-known among the County Nation..) link between Tommy Widdrington and veteran newscaster Angela Rippon. There's still time to catch up before kick-off (well not quite... maybe listen back as we bask in the comfort of a place in the third round draw.... hopefully!). It's right here anyway- however and whenever you may like to partake: AwayDay Show- Parks and Recreation

The games are coming thick and fast... so the AwayDay Show is back on the air this Saturday for a Seaside Special. What's so Special about it, I hear you ask. Well, we've got a stellar Fan Guest from this very parish, for a start (he's choosing which shirt to wear for the radio right now as I understand...). And we've got insight into the opposition/away town, results of a poll all ready to take the pulse of the County Nation... and an eclectic Playlist that if it doesn't include 'Bring Me Sunshine' then I'm going to be having a very strong word with myself at Half-time, I can assure you. All this and more- free to get your ears on to wherever you get your internets- right here: AwayDay Show- Morecambe

Just dropping into everyone's pre-Mansfield New Year's Eve to say... thank you so much to everyone on here for your continued, and massively appreciated, support for the AwayDay Show during the year just coming to an end. I really feel the Show is building a head of steam now, and I'll never forget how it was the encouragement and cheerleading and practical advice from people right here (all of you, but some in particular know who you are) which provided such a solid and essential foundation when I was starting out... and I'll also be forever appreciative of the YB contribution to the Show fortnight in fortnight out, whether just voting in the 'Poll taking the pulse of The County Nation', or being so kind as to actually guest on The Show Saturday mornings, or anything in between (eg like tuning in and listening, which is kind of the point and makes it all worthwhile!)
There'll be plenty more of this Awayday nonsense over 2024 and hopefully plenty of you helping to make it happen. In the meantime, thank you to each and everyone of you, and see you round at EP and elsewhere. I raise a glass to us all!
