Not when you're throwing a £93k loss PER FRICKING WEEK at it it's not...I'd argue. But still...great relief to see us exit it and grateful to DC for it. It's a tough division to get out of, it's an achievement no matter what you're spending (and even more so in DC's case considering where he took us over). Danny, DJ and Jim's successes weren't on a shoestring either. I'd be amazed if with any of their respective promotions we were amongst the paupers of the division from a playing budget perspective. £93k PER WEEK loss. That's an in-f*cking-comparably-to-anything-that's-ever-gone-before different level of support for the job. I posit that any remotely competent manager should have been getting us into pole position on those levels of spend.

He’s not Danny and Jim level. But he’s up there with Jones for me. That NL promotion is the hardest promotion we are ever going to have to get and to turn us round how he did to get us up is right up there. Throw in a Wembley play off final and some of the cup games, he’s been fantastic. Not when you're throwing a £93k loss PER FRICKING WEEK at it it's not...I'd argue. But still...great relief to see us exit it and grateful to DC for it. We chucked money at it under Elwood though (obviously not to this extent). For me Challinor’s spell has been the most enjoyable following County since Jim’s first spell.

I wonder what football managers wear to an interview? Dave didn’t even wear a suit for Wembley did he?

Dave Challinor is a Club legend in my book, up there with Danny, Dave and Jim. If he does go, it will be an extremely sad day. Not for me. Good manager and will look back very fondly on his time at the club (the national league promotion season was amazing) but finishing either 1st or 2nd was the minimum we should have expected that season given the collosal resources made available to him. It's just not comparible with what Danny, Dave and Jim did and i'm not saying that the holy trinity weren't financially backed themselves, it just wasn't on the same level as DC.

Mates with him but can’t see it happening. He must be on like £15k a week in the states? Rooney is a multimillionaire. Whether it's £5k per week or £15k a week it matters not. Interesting site thought I think John Rooney will make a good manager. I think he'll know how to work with players. Are you on a wind up? John Rooney comes across as one of the most arrogant, unprofessional, dislikeable people in the game. Gannon's comments about him say it all, really. I'd rather have Donald Trump as manager. P.S. Mattyovrio summed up my thoughts on Wayne Rooney well - did a good job at Derby and showed admirable loyalty, but I'd prefer us not to appoint a 'celebrity name' manager if possible.

Just logged on and seen all this, blimey. I said earlier on in the thread that there was a different vibe about County this season. I've toyed with the idea that he's lost the dressing room, that the dressing room isn't the same with the allegedly salary structure busting deal for Powell or that Wilson is trying to reassert some control over the football side (pure speculation all that). What I hadn't considered is the possibility that he may be on the way elsewhere. I can't believe that in any football deal these days the "legal approach" isn't preceded by a not so legal casual chat and approach to see whether it's worth proceeding. Of course we played Charlton last year and they must have been impressed. Strange really because we seem a million miles away from what we were then. My hunch is that he won't go will shake himself down and gun us around, but like others, the club agreeing to the approach just solidifies doubt about his future whether he goes or not.

We wouldnt stand in a players way if a great opportunity came up for them, why would we stand in Challinor? Especially if he said hes interested.

What did Jim say about John Rooney? I'd be interested in what he's said in private, but even in public he was pretty scathing e.g. after the Hartlepool game where Rooney got himself sent off for calling the linesman a c*nt. Here from 4:30-6:30:

At least we'll get money for him rather than having to pay him a big wedge off if it continues as it is. I'm torn really. All I do know is we need to be significantly better and we've failed to sign what is glaringly obvious to most again. It's early days but it's frustrating and it was there towards the end of last season too.

Expect him to move on sometime in the near future but Charlton would represent a massive career gamble IMO. Irrespective of them being a bigger club in a higher division they're an absolute basket case off the field, DC could take the job today & easily be out of a job in 6 months time, If I were him I'd be asking myself is it worth disrupting my family's life for a club as unstable as Charlton? If he does take that gamble with a club like that then that indicates to me there's something deeply wrong behind the scenes at County.
