What did Jim say about John Rooney? I'd be interested in what he's said in private, but even in public he was pretty scathing e.g. after the Hartlepool game where Rooney got himself sent off for calling the linesman a c*nt. Here from 4:30-6:30: Paraphrasing but never wanted him, was bought in as a connection through Stott, dreadful attitude, called the linesman at Hartlepool a c*nt (which is what he got the red card for) - Challinor said to Jim ‘did you hear that?/do you tolerate that?’ (or similar) as he was so surprised; Jim wanted to fine him at the very least but was overruled.

Yep, plus the line on him having a terrible attitude towards opposition, team mates, manager and back room staff. Always think you can tell an arsehole by how he treats those he considers the ‘little people’ and it sounds like Rooney treated them like dirt.

I'm being serious. DC isn't at the same level as those three, but he's still up there. Winning 20 games out of 21. Securing our Football League place after years in non-league. Play off final at Wembley. His win ratio of 55% is higher than all three. Jim's was 51% / 30% / 43% over his 3 spells, Dave Jones 48% and Danny Bergara 43%. I think he will be more than fondly remembered, if he does leave. DC will certainly be a very hard act to follow too. You could say a lot of similar things about Rusk. At the time, club record run without losing, one of the best win ratios, big wins, conceded few goals etc. But cold stats only tell a tiny bit of the story. Challinor has been great, exactly what we needed, but he's had vast resources, arguably the strongest players in each division. If he leaves now, it's the best thing he'll ever do for his reputation. But he's essentially jumping at one of the first chances offered. He's not had sustained success in the same way Danny, Jim etc but also not hit the height Dave Jones did, albeit with an exceptional team. Fondly remembered but light years away from those three. Rusk was some way behind Challinor on win ratio, his was 48% (which isn't bad) vs 55% for DC. No promotion, no Wembley with Rusk and the football before his dismissal was absolutely dreadful. A lot of fans were very angry Jim was dismissed to and the comparison was never going away. Rusk was only at the Club for a relatively short period too. Lot's of arguments on here about budget and I get that. DC has had fantastic level of resources, but he did spectacularly turn round the season when it was completely lost until Rusk and he got our FL place back. With Dave Jones you could argue that was essentially Danny's team, but he did strengthen and took us on to the next level when Danny fell short. And that 96-97 season was something else! Depends on how long you've been watching County too. I've seen every team since Danny, but younger supporters won't, so everyone's perspective will be different.

Here from 4:30-6:30: Makes the 'culture' comment in his sacking even more pathetic tbh. Clearly throwing his words back in his face. I've also been told by a pools fan who was at that covid game that Challinor was telling Gannon the stuff Rooney was saying about his fellow players on the football pitch. Didn't surprise me one bit that it looked like Challinor wanted nothing to do with him as soon as he came to the club.

Challinor will love it at Charlton just because of their strikers height
May - 5'7 Aneke - 6'3 Leaburn - 6'5 Etete - 6'6

Here from 4:30-6:30: Just watched that whole interview back. Forget the Rooney incident, just listen to how he talks, his philosophy, how much he cares about the club, trying to give us an identity not just on the pitch but as a club, and as individuals. There’s not a word there you can disagree with, unless you’ve got some weird vendetta (👋 gibbo). It’s insightful, it’s honest, it’s from the heart and it’s everything that made us County. And we f*cked it off. We chose Rusk over that. We chose to throw it all away and put out some bullshit statement using culture against him. 1000 games, 30 years, unparalleled success as a player and manager. It was disgraceful then and it’s even worse now.

You could argue it, but you’d be totally wrong and look pretty daft. Jones, Bennett, Marsden, Angell, Cavaco, Durkan, Cooper, Jeffers, Mutch - none of them were under Danny.

Watching that interview I can understand why he's held in such high regard and with such affection.

Jim’s yet again appeared on here, but the truth is, he was incredibly difficult to work with, mainly as he was never in the wrong; whether being told by Danny, or anyone else going forward - he was never at fault (in his own opinion).
It’s often better to take gods off there pedestals in order to better examine more closely the flaws.
PS. Jim is a County legend - no debate - but with question marks (as identified by almost everyone else who employed him); he is completely irrelevant to County going forward in 2023.

Even worse with the culture comment.

Won't happen but I'd have him til the end of the season followed by a move to DOF.
