Phil said he saw something in basically the first couple of minutes before they scored so that's impressive.... He didn’t look like he was carrying anything until about 15 minutes in, and even then he was clearly fine to carry on. Stop looking for excuses for a poor performance from one of the players who should be doing better. The kids get a free pass, the senior pros don’t and that includes Ben who should have done better on a couple of moments. He literally injured himself conceding the first corner of the game. It was quite clear he was struggling. He was still pretty terrible though.

Camps played very well when he came on. Onyanga looked good when he dropped back into the back 3. Thought the two wide cbs we had in the second half looked promising too.
I’ve said my piece on Hughes. Think he looked poor. This is not me saying I think he’s a bad player before more people start because I haven’t made a judgement on him yet- but he did have a bad game before coming off injured.
Blackburn fans really over egging their win here. Were squad numbers in their 40s and 50s not a clue? Well done lads, your pretty strong Chanpionship side beat a bunch of League One kids. #scenes #limbs
With the exception of Onyanga there’s nobody who’s started tonight who I think have put themselves in contention for starting on Saturday. Maybe Fevrier. I reckon we’ll be unchanged bar Onyanga in for Bate, either in midfield or pushing Mingi up.

Still wouldn't say so when you know the circumstances. For the casual observer, maybe. I'm not liking a minute of it (and am not there to soften the blow) but I think it was a tough but right call and the kids involved will benefit from it. Yep a thumping does wonders for confidence throughout the squad,we have got this wrong let's hope it doesn't filter through to Saturday, I get why we have done it but I don't agree. Not sure it really impacts it that much when the vast majority who will start Saturday didn't feature and it was very much expected. See above also. It's not really about prioritising Saturday. It's about managing workload. We could be having a similar conversation if the games were the other way around. Thought it's an easier "sell" / decision in the League Cup.

I kind of agree with you but I think your anger is aimed in the wrong direction. We absolutely should not need to do what we did tonight, but we did. Why did we need to do it? Because we already have half the squad out injured and we can't go a single match without someone coming off injured and then we have the same old routine of scans, silence for a bit, then a DC interview where he tells us that it's not as bad as he feared but it'll be 2 months out. I am sick to the back teeth of the injury situation and I can't believe it's getting worse over time rather than better. We desperately need to get to the bottom of it and sort it because it's well beyond bad luck now. Bad luck gives you a short term injury crisis, well when was the last time we didn't have an injury crisis and a patched up starting eleven that needed to be kept in bubble wrap for fear of it getting worse?

Bruno Cina put himself about when he came on, Fevs, Onyango & Camps did ok and got some important minutes in the tank. No one had a shocker (forgot about Hughes, he was quite bad, though Ohashi ran the defence ragid). Forget the result.

So no then? You've just decided they and the management team are getting nothing from this game and you think they're being humiliated. I don't. I think being 4-0 down inside half an hour is pretty humiliating for young players, yes. Doesn’t mean they’ve let themselves down, but it is nonetheless humiliating. You ask any of those kids to describe tonight I can guarantee you the word ‘humiliating’ will not come into their head. They’ve just played a professional football match against Championship opposition in front of a very supportive 5k. They’ll be absolutely buzzing and hungry for more. Most of them probably won’t make it as pros and they’ll remember this day into their old age.

What an absolutely bizzare, mard reaction on here😂
We have 12 senior players fit and it was made clear we would be playing kids tonight and accepting the consequences. What did you expect?
The alternative was to play our remaining squad of first teamers, have them not 100% for Saturday and risk further injury which would damage our long term success in the league.
Hopefully a couple of the lads that played tonight will go onto make a career out the game but the harsh reality is most won’t, they’ve been able to create a good memory for themselves and I’m pleased for them.
DC knew what he was doing and whilst not pretty, it was absolutely the right thing to do.

Which made sense to me last season, it doesn’t this.

If this was the trophy then I'd agree the approach, but the League Cup to give it its rightful name I think should be different. I know that we have a dreadful injury crisis but there's a mindset creeping in that we'll get at least another 2 serious ones every time we take the pitch. We may as well say we're more likely to win at home so keep the first teamers for that and just play the kids away. Anyway how many of our injuries have been during training or kick about friendlies?. If things really are this stretched then we are going to have to open the cheque book again or hit the loan market big time. Blackburn were a disgrace. Turned it on to see 2 players taking the piss by passing back and forth to one another. Embarrassing given the circumstances.

I think Fevrier will remain an impact sub, partially as he covers a few position so we can react accordingly. I agree that Onyango has impressed me so far - looks better / likely to have more influence that Cotterill/Pond already. Great name too. On ya' go, son!

Well context is a wonderful thing. Anyone with half an idea of the two squads will have known a 3/4 win for Blackburn was going to be the minimum once line ups were out. Anyone with half an idea of our injury situation would understand why we put that team out. As soon as I heard DC’s post match on Saturday I was content with what would happen today.
