Careful though, it can go catastrophically wrong. I give you exhibit A, mylud....."Anyone Can Fall in Love" to the Eastenders theme (feel sick just typing that) This is the thing, they tried making up some actual lyrics. If they'd left us (well me and Fez anyway) to just sing along with 'Now it is Eastenders Time. Now it is the time for watching Eastenders', then we would all have been fine. Just fine. Nailed it. Those are the lyrics, spot on. Likewise: “Coooooooor-o-o-nation Street… Coooooooor-o-o-nation Street…”

Very impressed in what I’ve seen from these two games, still appreciating they are glorified friendlies.Seen more in attacking structure and intent than Southgate’s last 3 tournaments. We've done ok, but had I watched those games and you'd told me Southgate was still in charge then I wouldn't have batted an eyelid.

Ah fair enough! My apologies- been listening to Lee Dixon all night and it would appear my capacity to recognise nuance has been temporarily disabled. I didn't actually see the Ireland game, but from all accounts we played some enterprising stuff there also, which is great to hear. No problem I get it! 😁 The first half was great I thought although we weren’t as good second half but it’s early days 😁 We were perhaps a little lucky they didn’t score in the first half, saved by poor final balls.

And Carsley has done well, albeit against piss weak teams, especially Ireland. But it's not like he's unlocked some level of performance that wasn't possible under Southgate. I'd be very happy for Carsley to continue in charge but let's not forget just how well we did under Southgate, it's a huge ask for any manager to even match that.

I'd imagine Carsley will end up getting the job but I wouldn't be surprised if the FA were keeping an eye on that bald nerd's situation up the road at the Gorton Globetrotters.

Each to their own but I don’t see you could come to that view if you watched the game or look at the squads selected. TAA starting (in his position), technical players in Gomes, Lewis, Grealish etc all getting lots of minutes. That’s before you look at the style of play, which was totally different. Still dominating possession but much more progrsssive. I’m not saying Carsley is some genius and like you say it’s a big ask to match Southgate’s tournament record - but there were very clear, marked differences from what we saw from a typical Southgate side.

Probably all hinges on what happens with City re: the charges. But he's never going to manage Spain so if he wants to manage a top international team this could be his chance.

I think Pep would manage just fine after a camp or two. Be surprised if he had any interest in the England job mind.

No chance it will be Guardiola. It would be like having Lance Armstrong in charge of GB Cycling. Optics would be terrible.

Me also, and if that makes us both simple then I'm happy to join the club! Hours of innocent fun to be had (well minutes, at least). Careful though, it can go catastrophically wrong. I give you exhibit A, mylud....."Anyone Can Fall in Love" to the Eastenders theme (feel sick just typing that) Anita Dobson/Brian May?
