Well there you have it. Four hours after transfer deadline finished, no news from the club about a striker coming in, just Marsden and Ellison going out on loans with George West out too. Might have expected Odejayi going out also, which would have saved money to enable one or possibly two strikers to come in on loan. Hope Marsden is not allowed to play against us as ex players always come back to bite us.
Stalybridge signed Andy Bishop and of the playoff contenders, Kidderminster, Salford and Halifax realise that goalscorers are your best chance of getting out of this league.
I am gutted if no one came in as we may make the playoffs but we will not win them without goals in our locker and we keep asking Danny Lloyd to provide the answer on his own. A tall order to take on.
Flyde have plenty of fire power having scored 94 to our 51. Where would we be with another 43 goals. Next Season we must purchase some quality strikers or we will never get out of this division.
For the run in we have only 16 fit players in the squad, plus Harry Brazel and Charlie Wardle, with Josh Amis, Adam Thomas and Adam Etches all injured. I am really surprised Jim has not strengthened further, but I hear that Courtney Mappen-Walter is being trained up to take over the strikers duties should Danny Lloyd be injured.

You're the BEST manager I've NEVER seen.
When can you start?

We have the best, no one better, but cannot believe Jim hasn't found a striker who has confidence and quality as it put's Danny under continually tremendous pressure to perform every match. That's a lot to ask IMO.
What ever division we are in next year, National League I hope, our goal scoring has to be improved with some quality.

In the last two games bringing only two goals, a Danny Lloyd effort in the 1-1 against Nuneaton and a Danny Lloyd penalty in the 1-0 win against Gainsborough making 27 DL goals so far for the season in all matches. We have waited over 50 matches if you include cup games and friendlies and have only 4 maybe 6 or 7 left for our other forwards to click into action.
If we do not achieve promotion, there will be a lot of "if onlys" about our performances and sincerely hope Jim will sort it as there will be some tough opposition being added next season with Southport, North Ferriby and Blyth Spartans, which again will make it difficult to get out of this division. We will need quality forwards next season.

Last nine games unbeaten, but this has only produced nine goals, only five conceeded and six draws. Seven goals all season between three centre forwards is an extremely poor return.
I do think we missed our opportunity in March, when teams around us spent cash and got stronger, we picked up a few free signings and did not kick on. Now we need to strengthen big time up front for next season. On my shopping list would be a few tons. Newton, Tamworths leading scorer. Warburton, Curzons leading scorer. Denton, from Halifax who Jim tried to sign at the begining of the season. Stockton, from Tranmere spent most of the season out on loan and might be released if Tranny get prompted. Others in our league would be Gloucesters Hopper, Curzons Cummins or Darlingtons Beck. In the division below Benbow has scored 30 for Stourbridge, Maguire 26 for Blyth and Hopson 25 for Whitby.
I do not know who is on Jims list but we need to sign three quality strikers who know where the net is as well as a replacement for Danny Lloyd, who I am sure will not stay if we are not promoted and that now is extremely unlikely. Perhaps Jim may like Bennett and Williams if released by Barrow. They were both under his coaching at Northwich.
At least it will be an interesting close season watching how Jim goes about strengthening the squad. Who he retains on top of those on contract already. I hope that next seasons the fans will not be screaming for more fire power. Lets all hope that this is resolved and we can effectively acheive promotion.

Yet again, yesterday we lacked firepower as we have all season and got our just reward of a finish in Eighth place. Obviously, just one more goal from any of the sixteen drawn games and we would have achieved a place in the playoffs. How that howler of an og by Stopforth has cost us. We would be champions had we won just eight of those sixteen draws and now have to suffer another season at this level. We had a glorious chance this season and we blew it.
I hope that there is not a major clear out as this will result in more instability next season. As I see it we need another solid centre back and a creative midfielder to replace Stopforth and Osborne and three quality goalscoring forwards, Four if Danny leaves too. Without Danny's 29 goals and 20 odd assists where would we be, probably relegated.
I would definitely not retain Mappen-Walter and Sefton Gonzales and although the team play better with his presence it is time for big Kay to move on, although I will miss him. John Marsden doesn't seem to fit in well with Jims style of play and has not been used this season as an out and out front man. He has goals in him and should have been used more upfront with the pace he has. He has to move on if he is not going to be played to his full potential. I would also let Kaine Felix return to York, thus creating the space for five additions. Max Cartwright, Ryan Ellison, Adam Etches and George West all have potential and young enough to remain. I hope so.

Yep, the firepower cost us in the end... we also looked out on our feet and unable to muster a proper assault late on. Lets hope for better next season, sooner we are out of his awful league the better and if we don't do it soon we will end up another BPA.

Now we are in June and only Warburton in so far, in respect of forward power. We still, in my opinion, need at least three quality front men to play at least 9 or 10. All players must be capable of scoring 20 goals a season. As well we need to replace Danny Lloyd and Lewis Montrose hopefully with quality players fully able to score plenty of goals.
In Jim I trust, but I fear he may have lost some of his original targets due to lack of cash or the players on his list don't want to come. Jim is a brilliant coach and Lloyd and Montrose I am sure they will miss his guidance. I feel confident that by the end of the month we have plenty of players capable of both creating and scoring loads of goals, we have one on board already and from rumours, another is signing very soon. Hope so. A rumour has it, that it is a guy from Newtown in the WPL Jason Oswell scored over 50 goals in 90 games in last two years.

The rumour circulating this weekend was true for once. I would now like to see a striker proven at this level or higher brought in to complement the squad
Oswell looks like he could be a good signing, but the Welsh League is not at our level and Jim is stating that he wants to use him as a number nine. I remember that going wrong with Peter Thompson. He was a brilliant number 10 playing off another attacker and he didn't fit with Jims play of a lone striker and although he worked tirelessly he got no support. I don't want that to happen with Jason. That's not to say we shouldn't give the lad a chance, but would like the security of a proven signing.
Jim says we need four more. My choices would be to invest some money and bring in Andy Cook for the extra goalscorer, Connor Jennings to replace Danny Lloyd. Bring back Elliott Osbourne for midfield. And in defence to cover right back I would like to see Gian Luca Havern return as he can also cover centre back. If we got those guys I would put a lot with the bookies for certain promotion.
There are a few promising young lads out there too that would improve with Jims coaching. Bradley Bauress, Max Leonard and Brady Hickey.
At the moment next season looks promising and I hope we will have the squad to match Salford and Harrogate and others spending big.

Following on from my previous posting Barrow have beaten a host of clubs to signing young Bradley Bauress. He is a left-sided midfielder with the versatility to play in an attacking or defensive role, joins the Bluebirds from Evo-Stik Northern Premier League Premier Division side Witton Albion. Bauress, 21, is a former youth player at Blackburn Rovers, becoming a regular in their under-21 side and making over fifty appearances in all competitions, eventually becoming under-21 captain. Following a spell at Colwyn Bay, he moved to Witton at the start of last season. A very impressive season for the Cheshire side saw him net 27 goals, including two goals against fellow National League side Chester FC in the Buildbase FA Trophy. Barrow chief scout, Paul Ogden explained that Barrow beat off interest from several other clubs to land Bauress on a one-year contract.
Just the type of player Gannon was looking for and one I believe would mature better under Jim's guidance

Agreed RE.
Feel the team is looking good, my choice Hinchliffe Minihan Cartwright Smalley Clarke O'Halloran Thomas, Winter or a new Creative Midfielder, Warburton, Oswell and DL replacement.
A strong bench from the rest of the squad. Feel we need cover for RB, CM, LM and CF.

I started this thread last season a month before the start, that I was concerned about the lack of firepower in our attack. This proved a problem all season. During the summer Jim has gone some way to rectify this with the addition of Oswell, Warburton and Stephenson. Although we lost our first game, it would have been a different result had Warburton converted the penalty and we may have gone on to win the game. Like last season Danny missed a penalty to increase our lead against Bradford PA which eventually cost us a playoff place.
What disappoints me this time, that only McKenna has come in to the squad during the last six weeks and there was no striker option on the bench today. I had hoped Jim would have brought in both Thomson from FC United who wanted to go FT with Harrogate and Leonard from Glossop who signed for Curzon, both were in the goals today.
To put this thread to bed, IMO we need a creative attacking midfielder similar to the style of Elliott Osborne and one, but maybe two more goalscoring forwards initially for the bench or for injuries. There are rumours that one may be in for the Curzon game and another for Harrogate, after which time I sincerely hope we have six points in the bag and then I can write and finally end this thread. I hope so.

Disappointing that Elliott Osborne is now bench warming at Morecambe. With Thomas, Stephenson and Warburton injured Our squad is looking frail. I don't want to gift Salford three points but that will happen if we don't strengthen the front end with one or two in before tomorrow's match.
