There was no interest in this strip of neglected land at all until we wanted to actually do something positive with it. Perhaps we can make a nice green space within the plans, anything is better than the current state of it. Genuine question: have any of these newly-concerned residents actually got off their arses to help clean up the land in question? It's what we do here in Basingstoke on a regular basis

If they saw all the bikes, prams and the bags of rubbish found i doubt they,d be in a hurry to help out either. Its about the third time this has been done in the 13 years we have lived here.

These can f*ck right off. No one gave a flying one about that WASTELAND until we decided to finally use it. Exactly a wasteland and nothing else. We are hardly chester who want to take over the zoo there to build a new ground. In the past places have been lost to planning far more important than what the club wants to change. A zoo! Now there's an idea. Forget the goats!

Didn't they suggest a petting zoo at one point? for the young fans before match day, and for the goats to be club mascots?

There was a patch of overgrown waste land a short walk from us that recently got cleared. The council had to bring in professionals to clear up the piles old building waste and white goods, but the neighbourhood came out to help clear up the glass and cans and needles and what have you. It's not a nice job but if this lot care as much about the local environment as they claim to, then they'd be out there lending a hand to clearing it up

Although then again they did suggest selling produce from the wasteland on match days, so they may well have done! Kids (sorry!) aren't into goats though. A real life bear as Vernon though there's an idea.

Even the parents looked scared!

We don't need to extend the main stand. New roof and improve the toilets and refreshment facilities at either side will do nicely thank you very much.
A new stand at the railway end will be more than adequate for the foreseeable future. If we start selling out that footprint (13-15k) on a regular basis and are solidly placed in the Championship, then a rebuild of the pop side might be worth considering.
Not seen any commentary about ticket prices but the club have confirmed they will be increasing even if we stay in L2, so I'd expect at least £22 for an adult ticket.

For me extending the Main Stand should be the last thing we do. New Railway, new Popside and probably a new roof on the Main Stand and we’re in good shape.

I managed to get over to the meeting the Edgeley Nature reserve group put on tonight.
I made some notes as my memory is terrible, main ones I’ll stick in here. Overall I get where they’re coming from - it’s a green space that won’t be there any more because of a car park. But the reasons they’re using didn’t really seem to hold up, the lady hosting is a resident of the road that looks onto the land and I got the overwhelming sense that this was more about her own quality of life. A lot of what they were saying was very emotionally driven which is understandable but won’t really do much when argued against the planners, ecologists etc that will be consulted as part of the planning application.
There was a relatively good turn out - 50 or so on a week night. Two of the newly elected councillors were there which was good to see, they put Matt Wynne on the spot at the end and asked him direct “what are you as a councillor elected by us going to do to help us?”. His response was pretty much that unless there’s a substantial proven negative impact on the areas biodiversity then there’s not much anyone can do as the land is leased to the club to do with what they want.
Other bits I took away from it were:
- the site is Approx 1.6 acres total, clubs proposal is to use half of it for a car park for execs and players, plans not being submitted until summer having been pushed back from the original plan to submit Spring just gone
- Group has talked to the club and looked at plans, they agreed when talking to the chairman that they’d be happy with just half the space being used as a car park, but said he ‘charmed’ them at the time and they’ve since decided they’re against that and don’t want the patch of land to be touched at all
- they feel other car parks around the area could be used and even surveyed local car parks when the pools match was on, to see how many spaces there were available already
- the reserve group have proposed that a new car park is built but only runs to about 2 spaces deep in parallel with the pop side
- they’re asking people to sign a petition and send a letter to the council opposing the car park
- their main worries are removal of green space and loss of biodiversity, they think the space should be turned into reserve for trees and wildlife, use it for schools to learn about nature
- they questioned why the CE car park and railway end car park can’t be used instead
- they believe that the council have not stuck to an agreement made when the land was ‘given to the people of Edgeley’, to keep the area wild
- if it was turned into a reserve, they propose that it would be closed to the public, apart from schools, community groups etc.
- they’re waiting for the club to submit plans (likely in a couple of weeks), they’ll then submit the petition against those plans, that argument against the car park will then go to the relevant committee for them to review

Also think I saw fallowfield hatter there? (Sorry if not). Wanted to come over and say hello but bottled it at the risk of seeming like some sad weirdo and / or getting battered by the guy sat behind me who seemed to be against anything remotely connected to County
