Stockport County average home attendances:
NLN years (pre-Covid) all sub-4000
2021/22 (NL) 7126
2022/23 (EFL 2) 9068
2023/24 (EFL 2) 9331
A sub-3% increase in a Championship winning year would suggest statistically that the stadium size is now holding back the spectacular year-on-year growth in the supporter base evident over the past few years which is now clearly plateauing-out limited by our stadium capacity.
On a personal note, not having a season ticket, there are games I would have been able to attend but did not, simply because the Railway End was the only option, or I didn’t fancy being wedged into the corner of the Main Stand or the lower corners of the Cheadle End; I’m sure I’m not the only one, and that’s before we count in the thousands of lost away supporters over the season limited by the size of the away blocks allocated in the Together Stand.
Will season ticket numbers be limited next season ?
All these issues will be exacerbated next season, and even a loss of 1000 supporters per game (home and away) over say 25 games at an average £20 per person = £500,000 in lost revenue even before you add on any additional sales - food, programmes, shop, et cetera. (Yes, the figures are random, but are for illustrative purposes - it’s easy enough to work out your own).
Moving forward with the plans is now I think becoming pressing, particularly if County - as expected - do well next season.

Totally true and for every fan who cannot get a decent seat in the ground and decides not to bother you can lose a fan who might be with us for life. There is a case for limiting ST numbers and a case for selling as many as possible. They are money in the bank but selling tickets on a week to week basis might be less financially succesful as fans are more fickle than they once were. Do not think it will be the case but if we had a mid table side with a home record letting us down there will be less of a take up for tickets. Know some cannot afford the initial outlay for a ST but thats where the club can step in and have plans to help these fans.

It’s the first season in a long time I’ve not had a season ticket and being generally disorganised and out of the habit of buying match tickets and underestimating demand I’ve found myself in the same position in terms of not going to games because only the RE is available, I did go in it for Morcambe and it was dreadful, hopefully next season I can afford to get a season ticket again and not have to worry too much but it really does need this refurb as a matter of urgency to allow us to grow.

Only reason i started to get a ST is the numbers we were getting and our famed ticketing system. I,d have carried on being a walk up if we were averaging 6k a game. If we fell back down to those number again and the ones i sit with who i have known for years stopped going i,d never get one again.

These past two seasons are the first time in 65 years that we've had average crowds over 9k for 2 or more seasons in a row. Something we've managed thrice before this season; three seasons in a row in the late 1950s, five consecutive seasons in the late 1940s/early 1950s (all over 10k), and two back-to-back seasons in the late 1920s.

Totally agree with everything you say, but average is a fair bit lower than £20 if you’re just basing it on ticket cost.
