The Main stand's a bit more than half the length of the pitch! Not that much. Half the pitch is 55 yards. The stand is 75 yards. A cantilever would require supports sticking out over Hardcastle Road, though, wouldn't it? And a goalpost design would have to be much higher, as they've done at Blackburn. Such a design with the current stand dimensions (or even wider, as we'd hope) wouldn't have the structural integrity unless it was about twice as tall. Neither of those options would get planning, I don't think. I agree matching the bricks would be easy enough. The big cost would be in all the other aspects. If there's money to be spent, it'd be much more sensible to spend it on the RE and Pop Side, and leave the Main Stand as it is. You're probably right that some supports would be needed (vertical ones?) for a cantilever. Which is why I suggested going with the existing form of propped roof (maybe tweaked slightly to reduce the columns actually in view from 3 to 2). This would definitely provide the cheapest option, and if the club's looking to get the best out of the available footprint, such an extension is a no-brainer: you'd add at least 1000 seats.
The mish-mash of newer buildings on that side just don't sit right for me, quite apart from their negative impact on spectators' view of the pitch. With new, larger stands on the Pop side and Railway end able to provide the more specialised accommodation (boxes, etc), simply filling in the gaps on the Main stand side cheaply (but tastefully!) would, I think, enhance both the appearance and the atmosphere.
But like a lot of folk, I'd really like to see a plan! I seem to recall that one of the fan groups (the Trust?) commented at the time of the takeover, more than a year ago, that they'd seen some plans and were very impressed. Since then.... S I L E N C E .... Either there's nothing to say, or those who saw something have signed some sort of non-disclosure agreement. They say knowledge is power, but this is maybe getting a bit beyond belief!

They seem to like to wait until everything is signed and sealed and they’ve had chance to create the on brand videos/ imagery before going public.
Suspect as well that any plans have been delayed whilst they wait to see the impact of Covid across their businesses. Plus the added complication of not owning EP or trying to obtain it from the council first.
Hopefully we won’t have to wait too long to see what they have in mind.

I'd be surprised if they'd spent as much as they have so far without a deal in place with the council, but then spending money doesn't seem to be much of an issue, and I can't see what would be in it for either party to keep it quiet if a deal had been done.

Hasn’t the deal always been that the tenant pays for upkeep? In which case the new cladding, paint and seats is arguably just that? New stands however would obviously be something entirely different...

with much needed work needed at the pop side and RE i do think the last thing needed is spending loads on the main stand apart from re roofing. could be from the fans point of view a refurbushed pop side would eventually be the main stand. never liked the cantilever roofs. when it rains it really means the front 6 or so rows are unuseable unless sitting in the wet is your thing.

Typical of perpendicular stands built in the 1930s though, apparently! I'd like to see the façade listed. I don't think we always appreciate how iconic it is, but certainly people in football outside of County hold it up as a proper piece of footballing heritage. yes it was very typical a building of the time. for me the only thing that makes it above the others are the words STOCKPORT COUNTY on it. if that did not exist i doubt people would really be that bothered if it went.

That’s a bit like saying ‘if the Great Pyramid wasn’t a Pyramid’ though, isn’t it! It’s unique, that’s why it’s special.

It should still be at the ground in some capacity, even if they do decide to do serious work on that stand.

This all looks impressive. Fair play, big revenue generator that has being brought right up back up to date.

The website and branding for EP looks good. Should be a good revenue stream for the club, if similar improvements can be made for the match day experience EP will be in a good way.

Looks absolutely brilliant, this should bring a lot of money in and show our presence in the town even further

Interestingly, after having a look on the website, there are various room options for hire including the Concourse (which is a new one to me) and they're advertising the Pitch for hire for Music/Food/Cinema night's - top capacity of 19,000.
