Defo could add a roof for now. Something tall and neat would smarten the end right up. Even for one season it’s worth it. Though I reckon it’ll be a couple of years until we see development there with another new expensive scoreboard being added.
No one likes an opened ended seated stand anyway, looks shite.

The long term plan is probably a new stand there so putting a roof on would be a waste of money. Good to know. I do sort of question though how expensive putting a roof on that stand could be. You could argue that we may end up losing revenue by not putting a roof on it. Ergo, the addition of a cheaper solution might end up making the club a small profit. Admittedly I'm nit picking a little.. I don’t know how much a new roof would cost but I’ve been trying to find out how much it cost Brentford when they stuck a roof on their old terrace. This seems to suggest it was £500,000 in 2007 although it’s unclear if all of the money for ground improvements went on the roof itself. griffinpark.org/index.php?threads/ealing-road-roof-director-confirms-monday-start.46555/£500,000 (before inflation) for something that’s intended to be knocked down in a few years seems pointless waste, at least the new scoreboard and new seats will be moveable.

If it's £500k for a roof alone then, that's too expensive. But not only do you need to bare in mind that we're not sure if that fee is for the roof alone, we would be looking for something much more temporary and wouldn't be built to last so to speak. Then again, you could possibly build the roof and rip it off whilst the stand gets redeveloped and extended before putting it back on..

I also don’t think we need a stand any bigger than the one that’s there anyway. Maybe sort the banking out and maybe an underneath. But surely the roof size is mainly driven by the footprint? Could even build it higher than it needs to be currently.

Then again, you could possibly build the roof and rip it off whilst the stand gets redeveloped and extended before putting it back on.. I get the impression from the little digging I’ve done that the majority of the 500k was on the roof itself, and that was 14 years ago. A potential solution would be to build the roof of a new stand first, to provide shelter for the stand beneath, but that may be too large to do anything meaningful. I ought to clarify I’m not opposed to sticking a roof on the railway end, uncovered seating is absolute trash and the ground would be infinitely better if it was roofed (although infinitely better again if we were allowed to revert it to terracing and stuck a roof on there) I just don’t think it will happen. I don’t think we’ll see anything meaningful done to the Popside or the Railway End until full redevelopment is underway. Seats and scoreboard can be used elsewhere, a temporary roof is a waste of money and one that can be dismantled and rebuilt over a larger stand is potentially needlessly convoluted - there would be something that would be compromised in the final design in that scenario.

A bigger stand could be a wise move - if we move up the leagues we'll get more local interest and follow, as well as being required to accommodate more away fans. Ideally I'd really like the RE to be a home stand and have the popside split between home and away fans. Would be a good bit of banter/atmosphere if the away fans were located nearer the CE in the Popside. RE could be a good family stand

I look at teams who for some reason built massive grounds and there just never seems to be an atmosphere as it’s never full. Give me a few games a season where capacity can’t keep up with demand over that any day of the week.

Wouldn't be surprised, if all goes to plan, in approx 5 years time EP will hold 15,000 and have a regular gate of 8,500

For me the ideal situation for EP redevelopment would be new stands on the Popside and Railway End that are to begin with not much higher capacity than we have now, perhaps bringing us up to a total of 12-13,000, but that are built and designed in a way that extra development (new tiers, filling in the corner, etc.) could bring us up to around 20,000 if future demand required it. See also extension of the Main Stand to run the whole length of the pitch. I think it would balance the ground better but it’s only the sort of thing I think we should do if we need the extra capacity.

As similar population sizes and bigger clubs close by… though arguably the Manchester tax on our crowds has more of an effect, but they’re a bigger town by population. I would argue Oakwell is too big for their needs at 23K ish and they get about half that on average. So I’d definitely like to see us about the 15K mark.

Would love to see the RE become self-contained in terms of facilities and also maybe even hold some boxes. I’d argue with a redeveloped pop side you could even lose some seats in the RE to do this. It’s been a while since we’ve been but from memory the away end stand at Crewe has a relatively small number of seats, but hospitality within it? Something like that for me would work nicely.

Getting 3000-4000 tops at belle Vue build a new ground and they are getting 7000-10000. Done well it can be used as a catalyst. Done badly like at darlo it's plain stupid, there's a balance. I think the pop side and railway the being redeveloped like Blackpool with extra corporate would be a good thing.

Has there been anything else done about opening the walkway behind the railway end for this covid time?
