It's like trying to explain to people how progressive taxes work. Remember someone telling me he had refused a pay rise because he'd end up with less money as it took him into the higher rate tax band... He would not have it that he'd be getting more money. there were (possibly still are?) a couple of very specific cases where that happens, all to do with how things interact with child benefit / NI and a couple of other schemes. Can’t remember the exact figures, but the particularly egregious one was something like a single parent was better off either earning £49999 or over £53k due to the way the thresholds for child benefit worked, with figures in between the two pretty marginal in terms of actual take home. There was also a much bigger issue for people earning between £100k - £125k, but far less sympathy for people at that level as you might expect. most workers could get around this by some sort of pension / salary sacrifice shenanigans, but some workplaces weren’t set up to deal with that sort of thing. This particular person it wasn't anything like that. You've tried to devil's advocate them when I've raised this before. It wasn't that, they just didn't get tax boundaries in the slightest. They didn't have children and they weren't anywhere near the NI/personal allowance tapering point. It's funny I almost put in my post that I expect you'll be along in a minute to tell me they were right (they really really weren't they were just clueless and believed they would pay the higher rate on all their taxable income) 😂

Mark Menzies - Conservative MP for Fylde - has done nothing wrong, apparently. I therefore wait with bated breath for the actual evidence of his having been kidnapped and held for ransom.
Sweet Jesus, it’s like a third-rate text message scam IRL…

Sweet Jesus, it’s like a third-rate text message scam IRL… What kind of person votes for these people? But worse, what kind of person would vote for them now that they've basically, almost as an entire party, outed themselves and shown what they are before, since and through Covid in particular? Really intrigued to see what happens in this General Election just to see how far we've gone down the rabbit hole as a nation...

No matter what party people vote for many vote a certain way to keep another party out of power. Know its hard to imagine anyone voting tory but millions will and a good percentage of them will do it just to keep labour out because of the past.

Credit where it’s due: he appears to have made sure the thousands of pounds of constituency party funds ended up in some pensioner’s bank account and not his own. So “bravo” for that bit of @rse-covering…

Just listening to our PM spouting about the unemployed and promising to tighten the screw especially for people with mental health conditions. Like the NHS has the capacity to help these people in a timely manner-not.
Quote" some people will hear this speech and accuse me of lacking compassion". Hmmmm...

He tried to get all those early retirees back to work and that failed, so on to the next population group on the list. “This policy is brought to you by a man incapable of distinguishing symptom from cause.”

The country desperately needs this shower out, it really does. I mean for me, Labour aren't that much better at the moment, but the current zombie government needs booting asap, for the sake of the country as much as anything else. They're not offering any new legislation, apart from flights to Rwanda, so really, what is the point of them?
Problem is Sunak, although richer than Croesus, seems to like the kudos of being PM and they've also already admitted that they're hanging on so that all the MPs who will lose their seats can earn as much as possible before they're out. It's the final death throes of a self-serving, shambolic government, and we're all having to suffer for another 6 months.
The most fitting outcome for them is the apocalyptic scenario that some pollsters are predicting, where they drop below 100 seats, and are split in two by the rise of Reform. It really is what they deserve.
