Think that is a reaction from parents to the woke stuff going on at todays schools rather than social media or lack of proper education they feel their kids will not receive. I'm intrigued to hear what the woke stuff going on in schools is? Does he mean education beyond the 3 Rs?

Which is why home schooling is skyrocketing Think that is a reaction from parents to the woke stuff going on at todays schools rather than social media or lack of proper education they feel their kids will not receive. Made up. By right wing bigots. "Wokism" in school literally doesn't exist. It's manufactured rage. Edit - Unless what is meant by wokism is just, like, trying to turn our kids into decent human beings. Which, isn't wokism. And anyone who thinks that schools shouldn't be trying to bring our kids up into being decent humans must have had the wires in their heads chewed through by the mice living up there.

There is some bollocks though, my lad was told to go easy and not win by too much in the running 🙄 that's just life people can't be good at everything, little Timmy who came a distant second might be really good at Physics, should he get a D to make the others feel better?

Yeah, kindness and tolerance is a big theme. (I have 6, 17 and 19 year olds). Don't see how any right thinking person could have an issue with that.

That's different, I think. In sporting situations I'm mega competitive and wanted my kids to be the same in the egg and spoon race. But teaching kids about tolerance and understanding of others is absolutely something we should be teaching.

You're talking to the bloke who's 53 and never been beaten at table tennis by his kids...ever. And never will be. So I certainly don't believe kids should be given an easy ride. But even in the midst of the competitive nature of schooling they can still be taught to be decent to other people. Sport's a great mechanic for that by the way. Rinse your opponent but still show good grace after the event. But, I know enough of you to know that we're not in disagreement on this.

A moral education should be one of the many roles of a school. If that type of parent is using words like woke it shows what their leanings are. Political point scoring ahead of what's best for their kid.
Anyway, Don Megson has died.

Very broadly, a style of authoritarian leftism imported from the US, focused primarily on identity issues and performative online culture. A big contrast to the traditional sort of European liberal leftism that is more focused on class / economic issues, and got things done through strikes / unions / protests. However, it means very different things to different people. My personal view isn’t far from the description below. freddiedeboer.substack.com/p/of-course-you-know-what-woke-means

Basically a load of sh*t then. Yep. And I'm none the wiser for reading that description of it. 🤷♂️

On top of that the time they teach things that are not included in the 3 R,s. Got a feeling kids are not being allowed to be kids anymore but some little adults when they actually have little idea of tolerance and understanding but just have to learn it like arithmetic. Know a lot will not agree but i find any form of sex education to kids as young as they are now is something schools should certainly drop. At the age its being mentioned i doubt they have any understanding of the subject as their brains and bodies have not developed in that way.
