Gerry Marsden died today. Sang popular song about a river in Stockport. Liverpool should play You'll Never Walk Alone before their next home game. Be a nice tribute, that.

A great player. Should have replaced Bobby Charlton earlier than he did in the England team. Nevertheless won 48 caps and would have had many more if not for serious injury.

He was the player everyone in our primary school team wanted to be. And yes, City were a much different outfit than they are today, with Bell and others joining City from the lower leagues and going on to win multiple trophies.

I said this before but city fans have become everything they used to despise about United....... commercial plastic not from Manchester fans. My mate supports city, he's from didsbury but now lives in harrogate. He takes great delight in telling me they have a full coach every week. He then asks if county had any fans in harrogate? I ask if any of them went to Maine road?

Deep down, they know the truth and they realise nobody really respects them or their 'achievements'. They are basically just a franchise for Abu Dhabi and it's country's sovereign wealth. They may as well play in the desert at times to suit their owners and tv audience. As someone else said, the hypocrisy of the fans is unbelieveable; they spent years slagging off United for the commercial, money driven club they were but city are probably even worse. They managed to get off the European ban by throwing the most money at lawyers and they'll do the same in the leagues. But at the end of the day, nobody really gives them any respect or credit as they've not earned it. The contrast between the reaction to the Leicester Premier league title and anything when they 'win' is really stark. They don't understand the term 'achievement' in it's true sense and they still won't in 5 years time as they win their 10th league cup on the run!

On a similar note, a load of my mates used to get all uppity when I said they weren't proper United fans for not going the games regularly when I was always at County. Having been forced to watch games on telly now, there's no way you're a proper fan if you choose to watch the games on telly rather than go.
I'm not talking about exiles or those whose circumstances don't allow regular attendance, but if you can go to games but choose to watch them on Sky you're not a proper fan. You're not part of it. You don't have a connection to the players, the moments don't mean as much, you don't have the weird experience of seeing familiar face up and down the country (or even just at home games) but rarely, if ever, speaking to them. You may as well be watching a documentary. I'm glad I have the option to watch the games now but I hate it. I miss going so much, I can't wait until we're back at games. I honestly think if restrictions were lifted tomorrow, we'd have 8000/9000 at EP if we had a league game on Saturday, even against someone like Dover or Eastleigh.

A mate of mine (a proper City fan to be fair) used to make a good point when United's massive support got mentioned, was that rather than having a large number of supporters, United really had a large number of followers. The distinction you make there is between the 'Supporters' (going to games) and 'Followers' (armchair), don't think the latter will ever feel the same part of it.

actually feel a little sorry for old time ex maine road city fans. they like us may have followed in the footsteps of fathers and grandfathers even back to the hyde road days. now they have to sit next to the new age fans who know nothing about the clubs history apart from what they read. they are only on hire to city anyway until something bigger and better comes up. imagine being a County fan having to suffer the same fate every home game. think that would actually finish me off.
