We came up against a classic non league side tonight, 4-4-2, kept their shape and defended well so it worries me that we stuck to playing out from the back, especially on that pitch, and with ten men, and with 4 right footed defenders at the end.
It was unfortunate Kitching went off, and while I understood Minihan going to left back and MSH to right back, it was strange that we had 2 right footed players on the left as they both wanted to come inside, it just made us even easier to play against as both players on our right had to either take too many touches or play the ball inside, I personally would have brought Stott on and Bennett should have came on much earlier.
But he's a highly qualified coach so be knows a million times more than me. On the bright side this may do us a favour as Rusk will now know more about the squad and what needs fixing.
I love Ash Palmer but he looked really poor when he came on, can't see him sticking around much longer unfortunately

I, like many on here am so disappointed with that performance. We seemed totally devoid of any ideas on how to break them down. Credit to Sutton for that but surely with the supposed quality of our squad we should have made some inroads at least. I think I remember Jim saying recent!y without technique there is no tacti cs. Tonight it seems we were sadly lacking in both. Our indiscipline cost us also. If we are to progress then I can see he

I'm not naturally warming to rusk in these interviews. Maybe not surprising given I have no emotional attachment I'd liken him to a doctor in a hospital. A little cold and clinical - but all I care about is that he makes be better.... I'd go with this. Hopefully it will come in time.

I had to laugh at JK comment when they announced MSH as MOTM, he said "MSH man of the match tonight and receives bottle of Stockport Gin but im sure it will taste flat tonight"....pretty sure all gin is flat

From Rusk and Minihan’s interviews they seem very adamant that it wasn’t even a foul. Be interesting to see what happens with the FA/NL.
Frustrating night all round.

On another night one of Rooney's early efferts would have gone in and Ben would have launched that backpass up the pitch, the ref wouldn't have sent Hogan off for what now appears to have been a good tackle and we'd all be happy tonight, fine margins.

Sorry, my post got corrupted as I was typing. I can see new faces being brought in if we intend to push for promotion this season (unless it's suspended). Sadly, I really don't think this squad is strong enough. Not sure if I am looking forward to Saturdays game anymore.

I hope Rusk grows into these interviews and stops using phrases like ‘what we’re trying to do big picture’. Give him time though. JK reckons we were unlucky! I want some of whatever delusional substance he’s on. I've felt some of the critism of JK has been unfair, I rate him as a commentator. He clearly feels he has to tread a careful line when interviewing though, to the extent he can come across like a Fox TV guy interviewing Trump. I don't necessarily even hold that against him though, I guess he's got a mortgage to pay and he can't exactly leave and apply to be someone else's in-house media presenter guy. The scrutiny does need to be on the coach though. And I'm sorry but I'm not impressed there. He's too keen to lavish praise on Hogan.. 'great leadership, great tackle'- really? It certainly was not a great or even necessary tackle as pretty much everyone on here has said. And there's no acknowledgement of the overall poorness of the performance, the disintegration. Just wooly reference to 'individual errors', betraying no insight. Most of all though, he doesn't look bothered enough. More like a pundit analysing a team's display than their coach (try imagining all the we's as that's, it's easy). I'd have liked to hear something like ' the fans will be disappointed with the team's reaction to going behind tonight, and they've every right to. Our discipline was not good enough'.

Except for on Palmer though. I didn't see him put a foot wrong! Game of opinions, as they say....

Been off line to get some food and calm down. These are my post pulled pork and spanish potatoes thoughts.
That was absolute crap!, and certainly put to bed the idea that Saturday was due to the Rusk bounce. It's way too early to judge Rusk, but some things were either directly or indirectly down to him I think.
Playing out from the back and retention of possession is risky in the Premier league, how many goals do you see conceded, and that's elite often international players on bowling green pitches. Way before Ben's howler I was wincing watching the ball rolled across from one defender to another. The problem is that for it to be effective the ball has to be whipped around quickly and moved forward. We did it so ponderously that it allowed Sutton just drop back into their solid banks of 4 that we seem impossible to break down, especially with a lone man isolated up front. Dont want us to lump it, but the tippy yappy was too extreme tonight.
When Kitching went off, the substitutions were bizarre. Left sided defender on the bench and he ignores that moves the right back to left back, the right sided winger to right back and a left sided player to right wing. We looked immediately unbalanced and never looked like creating anything. Dont know what Rusk was thinking about.
Clear there is a real discipline problem. If JK is right maybe the penalty was wrong, but if Palmer's at Hartlepool was probably harsher and he didnt react in the way that Hogan did and he may have got the red for abusive language. Maynards reaction was also unnecessary. We seem to have turned into a team constantly back chatting to officials, giving away poor free kicks in dangerous areas with Rooney trying to mark the refs card all the time. Bennetts booking may have been down played by JK, but I thought he left his foot in and over the ball. Their player may not have been as injured as he made out, but it was a nasty challenge and he also had to have a go back at the ref. This isn't necessarily be Rusks fault, but those players have to be brought in line.
Need to win on Saturday. Another defeat and the pressure on Rusk and Magee will ramp up, although Magee's body language doesn't look that interested to me.
Embarrassing night.

Sam's interview makes me feel better. Becoming a distraction this red card, we were in no danger of winning tonight.
