Must admit that my taste in beer is piss poor compared to others, but where the Fcuk has this Madri come from? Moretti is sort of ok, but don't get this Madri hype this summer. Just a glorified Carling with no relevance to Spain at all. Estrella, Mahou and Cruzcampo all sh1t all over the above. I gave the Madri a try (tempted by the attractive bottle) and I have to say I found it unredeemingly awful even by the standards of mass-produced ersatz Eurolager. Literally like drinking fizzy water, and at 4.6% or whatever piss-like ABV it weighed in at... I may as well have been. I just hope the graphic designer who came up with the natty looking fellow in the checked jacket who figures on the label negotiated themselves a decent fee- because they've made the company an absolute fortune.

That's the thing, I much prefer a San Miguel, Warsteiner, Kronenberg, but then I wake up in front of the telly at 3 in the morning with the sign language people on at the bottom of the screen. The 4.6 is good for a few cold ones with a Friday night curry and not many after effects the next day.

First came across this swill at a 'do'in the Alma Lodge last year.Gave it a try in preference to the usual cream flow and ice cold crap and wish I hadn't.Speaking of swill, does anybody remember Robbies go at lager, the dreaded Einhorn ? It took the taste buds to a whole new level. Hydes own effort Regal lager, see what they did there?, not quite as sharp as the bloke with the check waistcoat, makes Einhorn taste like a drink of the Gods absolute filth.

And the tostada beer from the Estrella Levante brewery in Murcia sh1ts all over any of those. If you're not a lager drinker, the tostada beers are the beers to drink when you're in this country if you can get them. One of my favourites is Lidl's own brand tostada which comes in at a potent 6.6% 🍻🤑 There are some very good Spanish ciders too but they can be hard to come by here in the south. You need to go to the Northern province of Asturias for the best ones. photos.app.goo.gl/5MWW4KpYeYUbfGL19If you're in Spain and you like your beer a little less "girlie" 🤣 then this is the stuff you should be on the lookout for. Not that common on draft even in Spanish bars but they'll nearly always have a tostada of one type or another in the beer fridge. As an ale drinker, this is the only stuff that comes remotely close for me. There's a lot more to Spain than San Miguel and crappy English ciders 😉🍻🇪🇸

Do have a look at our Birmingham Branch magazine. forward.camra.org.uk/read/And do come to Brum. We have some fantastic pubs, even though we've sadly lost the Woodman.

Northern Monk Uprising and Kirkstall Virtuous for the match, both perfectly good pale ales, Chimay Blue with my tea, a classic, Torrside American Barley Wine after, who’d have ever imagined something that good could come from New Mills, just staggering.

IIRC, Hedders, Torrside is popular in the Petersgate Tap.
