Really? We just drew 2-2 against the team second in the league, who we may end up playing, and are 16 games unbeaten. Whilst they had better chances, we had the ball in their area more and could have put more on target than we did. But we didn't put more on target did we? & we looked ropey at the back. 16 games unbeaten & Rusk looked more intent on preserving that than going for the win, which i think if he had made the right subs earlier we could of quite well of got. Keane should of replaced Croasdale who was having a mare, Bennett could of come on 20 mins before he did for Cardwell who looked knackered. --- Many of our games this season, by not putting more on target, have cost us points— points that could have made us champions. It seems incredible to me that neither of our managers have been able to improve this. Isn't scoring goals the object of the exercise? If we get promoted (or even if not) this should be the number one area for attention next season.

Problem we’ve had this season is basically:
Sutton L/D Torquay L/D Hartlepool L/D Notts L/D
Not really good enough for the money we’ve spent but I can see us winning the playoffs...

To be fair to Jim and Simon, we've done quite well at that exercise!

but Rooney at 8 means that Croasdale goes headless chicken as he’s having to do too much running around for Rooney to actually play his own game efficiently. Rooney missing completely means we lack a spark of creativity/ player who can conjure a goal from nothing (especially with Madden injured) Rooney at 10 gives us both, but means the ball doesn’t stick up front as well. That’s the problem that Rusk needs to solve before the next decent team we play. the team today batters weak opposition like Woking, and has the creativity to beat mediocre teams like Yeovil, but won’t be good enough against Hartlepool in the playoffs. Rooney slows play at 10, and doesn't have the ball on the turn enough. Rooney is less defensively minded than Collar, but he is better on the ball... and fit! And it is fine saying we won't have enough to get past other teams, but they'll say the same about us no doubt. Rooney and Collar are the swappable ones for me & it should come down to how brave we want to be. (But IMO think selection is a little more political than that… albeit not right now as like you say Collar isn’t fit!) As I do agree with HTC that it leaves Croasdale a little exposed against good sides. But I personally don’t mind that when you create chances like we did today and had we defended a little better… Let’s not forget too that Rooney’s moments can still happen coming off the bench - arguably at a point in the game where you know if you need one of them or not.

It's our home form that worries me for the play-offs, hopefully having a few fans there will help rectify that situation & the 2 or 3 thousand who are lucky enough to get in can make themselves sound like 10,000!

The first four games were the losses the last four the draws so we’ve improved. I think us, Hartlepool and Torquay are very well matched - think we might be heading towards some penalty shoot outs.

Had 2 or 3 neutrals comment to me all saying the game, very good entertaining game.
People saying we didn't have control in midfield, did Torquay? Newby picked up the ball in the half space plenty of times himself. It was two teams wanting to win a football match and a draw was a fair result.

He makes some really baffling subs, Rusk. Sometimes it works out but sometimes it's so out of left field you're not sure what he's aiming for. Given some of the chances Torquay have had, you'd take a point but at the same time a point isn't enough. Not really. What he was doing with the subs was pretty clear. What was the plan when subbing off a striker for a CDM/CB?

Agree with that. A good game between two good teams. Very much like the Daggers game. Assuming Sutton go up and Daggers don’t make the POs it will be us v Hartlepool in the POs.

I can't see us winning them, based on the above you've posted. I also don't think it's just results, always feel the better teams look a bit better / more composed than us when we play them (add Daggers to that list). Posted a couple of weeks ago that results had been slightly better than performances, and stand by it last couple of games.

In the grander scheme of things though, based on our resources / outlay this season, I would have expected a bit better from us against the better teams. Both Gannon and Rusk don't really seem to have been able to get us over that hump.

Not really. What he was doing with the subs was pretty clear. What was the plan when subbing off a striker for a CDM/CB? Securing the point. Rusk is a percentages guy. We are now in 3rd with 2 to go and 4th place have to go to Champions-elect next Sunday. With our far superior goal difference we win against Woking and Hartlepool lose to Sutton and everything is secure for 3rd.

Torquay were the better team for me. Don't think we've got value for money with our recruitment, those are the games we should be dictating but once again we look short in certain areas.

It was at least as equally important today that we didn’t lose. Had we lost we’d still be 4th and though Hartlepool still have Sutton to play it would have made it more difficult for us to secure 3rd place
