Mirlees will be housing and a community area soon I would imagine.
Would have been a great shout if not though.

Agree. That could help finance the build. I think it is a good location for it. Will bring a lot of people into the town centre for work etc. Some of the old buildings at Stepping Hill need to go. Overall, with the increase in population in the Stockport area, I would expect the new hospital to be in addition to, rather than instead of Stepping Hill.

Understand that's the plan - move some services to the new site but retain a fair wedge of Stepping Hill.

I do worry about people’s lives and welfare, but also I’d hate to see the Crown as rubble. Plus the big plan with the new bus terminal is loads of new apartments around that area so it sounds like a congestion nightmare. Surely a big new hospital is better a bit out of town than in the main pulse of it, even though our pulse is weak. Might be better having focused, speciality departments about the place like we currently have. Spread the load/congestion.

Mirlees has poor access, can't see Woodsmoor residents being happy at all the ambulances winding through all the residential streets What about the old Jackson's Brickworks site in Adswood? Huge, empty tract of land, just off Garner's Lane, probably more land than the current Stepping Hill site so even more room to expand.

The idea is to get more people using public transport, straight off the bus into the hospital and no whinging about parking costs, we've just got to change people's mindset.

Saw this earlier today. Was telling my kids how I used to come down with my old Feller every Saturday to get the fruit and the veg for the week. We always used to walk down Underbank so I could see the bell ringing by the figures. Superb! Can’t wait until it is working. Was back in the early 70s and here we are 40 years later and my little uns will be enjoying the same pleasure.😀

That area needs developing but I wish it wasn't blocking part of the viaduct.

Hope they move that tower away from the viaduct. I’m all for improvements and round there needs it. But you don’t cover a famous landmark.

In similar vein, one of the worst buildings in Stockport is Regent House - it's far worse than Redrock, which gets all the whinging. How many thousands of people heading from London to Manchester every day go over the viaduct and look east out of their window at what should be a great view, especially on a nice day, of the town centre valley, with the Pennies/Peaks in the background, only to see a massive white featureless building totally block the view?
