That new takeaway sneaking into view on the left, Phat Ladz, is one of the most Edgeley things I’ve seen in a long time.
Phat Ladz.

Al fresco P3 pints. WATTBA Same idea in Cheadle was a complete waste of our money. Not enough parking on Castle Street as it is.

As long as he backs off Chunky, that has to stay.

Would castle street be better if it was one way?
Strict no double parking so you can't park on the road while you run into a levy bakery (seems to be the most popular place)

Obviously it’s not currently the type of place many would sit outside and have a drink or bite to eat but stuff like this gives it the opportunity to change.

But the layout of the road allows it. So only way to stop it is to shape the place so cars can't physically stop in the road. I'm not sure one way really solves anything, much better to make it pedestrian friendly and a lot less accessible for cars.

The blocking of the through route down Castle Street was what caused its demise. However the current traffic management on there is ridiculous, rules ignored by everyone including the wardens who only seem to appear on Match days.

So it carries on like it does with the usual double parking by lazy buggers who refuse to find a parking space or avoid it altogether after about 1pm on match days.

Agreed. Pedestrianise the whole thing, spend some money on tarting it up as above, then try and ride the wave of County's success by making it a bit of a destination place. Underbanks, Market Place, Castle Street... Another of Stockport's trendy places for a coffee/night out. I know, I know, it's Castle Street. But you don't achieve anything if you don't try, and fair play to that councillor

There's no need to have to drive down Castle Street. Mercian Way takes you from A to B and there's several roads running parallel to Castle Street at the back too. There's plenty of money in Edgeley and Stockport now, but those I know who live there laugh when I talk about Castle Street and just ignore it other than nipping to the Co-op. One outdoor seating area isn't going to change things but it's a positive step. There's still plenty to be done with restricting the types of business that wants to open/encouraging or incentivising other, improving the public spaces, even down to using planters for more greenery etc. But none of that will happen while there's still cars flying down there, takeaway drivers double parking, cheap vape shops and dog meat takeaways.

They should just do it properly imo and pedestrianise castle street. I don’t quite get why they split up castle street as well - half baked solutions always end up solving nothing.
