It’s a shame, it’s a location for dray horses not lorries though. Presumably selling the site will do a way to funding expansion in Bradbury too.

I'd quite like Robbies to at least have some part in any development as they're more likely to keep some of the history of the brewery around, whatever that entails.
Unless I'm getting my boozers mixed up then the unicorn is still there so they may reopen that? Doubtful with the bulls head reopening and the red bull just down the way but would be nice.

Where's the best places in the town centre for live music these days? Spinning Top has the most bands on. Arden and Petersgate Tap have bands too, but the ST is a dedicated music venue..

Shame that. I did the brewery tour a few years back and part of what made it special was that it was the same building it had been for so long. Seeing the old machinery in situ next to the new kit was a unique experience.

Where's the best places in the town centre for live music these days? Depending on your music tastes there's a Megadeth tribute band on at the Spinning Top this Friday!

The anti reactions to it really are frustrating. Don’t we want to improve the town and fill up the many vacant plots?

I personally want Stockport to thrive and love seeing places open but I have my concerns with this place. Where residential property is very close by (in this case next door) then I personally think places should close at 12 at the latest on a Friday and Saturday. If you live in a centre you have to expect a certain degree of noise from nightlife but 1am is a tad late when you live next door.

On the flip side did you see the dickheads trying to close Night and Day in MCR? Residential has crept in there but it’s been full of bars and nightlife long before that. If you want to live in any town centre then you should be prepared to live with it and embrace the culture. Underbank is improving but it’s still way off other towns of a similar ilk with empty properties and degrading shit shops. It needs a boost and new bars/shops are the only way. Winters is a positive of how things need to go round there. Was a horrible run down alcoholics pub for too long.
If you don’t want noise then don’t live in a town centre, pretty straightforward to me.

When we got our 2am licence without any issues, we were told that would be the very last late night licence dished out by SMBC regardless of who or what comes in the future. I think 1am on Underbanks is a tad late as it is very residential however, there has to be an element of developing the late night culture of the town as late nights Friday & Saturday is when the Marketplace is at it's busiest and there is very rarely any trouble so they can't use the ASB angle to reject it IMO.

Notion on 15th May will be the hottest ticket in town, promotion party at County HQ.

Never really understood the attitude of stockport Council. On the one hand they want to regenerate the markets and underbanks and on the other make it difficult for licensing.
You struggle to get a pint passed midnight in town at the weekend which is embarrassing. If stockport is to be the thriving place it wants to be, later licensing is a must. Proper small town attitude. That councillor talking about 'hooliganism!'embarrassing stuff.
I never realised the underbanks and lower hillgate was so residential. Thought most of it was empty. That street could be like a edinburgh or york city centre Street but again doesn't look like there is the appetite for it.

Clearly these councillors weren't brought up attending Yates, Sam's bar, White Lion, Monroe's, Moonshine, Cocos, Grand Central etc.
I need to become a councillor and out vote these old fuddies.

It’s one thing having some Bamboo-esque blood tub in the middle of town, but quite another having several independent bars serving til 1/2am, even later in some cases. A good town centre offer would have those late bars. Who are the councillors in charge of stuff like this?

I love the market area now, I was down there last Friday and it was buzzing and no hint of trouble, there never is to my knowledge, I don't think I'd ever go in a cocktail bar though but it has to be a positive.
